Nine-run frame lifts Pirates to 13-4 win

Seton Hall University erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning, seizing control en route to a 13-4 win over the Bowling Green State University softball team Friday evening (March 6). The game was part of the USF Under Armour Showcase.

Sophomore Haley Schrock scored a run and drove in two for the Falcons, while classmate Aspen Searle hit her second home run of the season.

The Pirates, however, got a three-run homer, a grand slam and a solo shot in that fifth inning.

"I am disappointed with our approach tonight," said BGSU head coach Shannon Salsburg. "We had control of that game and we allowed one thing to become another, and Seton Hall took advantage of every mistake."

Searle was 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring a pair of runs and driving in another vs. the Pirates, and senior Chloe Giordano was 2-for-2 with a walk.

But, Whitney Jones, Alexis Walkden and Faith Laudano all homered for SHU. Jones and Laudano each had four RBI in the win, while Valerie Suto was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

Junior Braiden Dillow, the first of three pitchers in the game for the Falcons, took the last, falling to 3-3 on the young season.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday (March 7), facing Villanova at 11:15 a.m. and Maine at 4:15 p.m.
