Bowling Green, Ohio – This weekend, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team will host the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio on April 11-12.
The fifth annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational will be a two-day and 36 hole event played at the par 72, 5,960-yards golf course at the Stone Ridge Golf Club. The two-round tournament will consist of 18 holes of play on both Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12, with a slated shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET on both days.
This year's tournament field will include 11 teams and a number of individuals. Along with the Falcons, who will be fielding not one, but two teams in the home event, the tournament field includes Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Oakland, Ohio, Detroit, Illinois-Chicago, Toledo, Western Michigan and Youngstown State.
Head Coach Stephanie Young will send out all 10 Falcon golfers for the home event.
Playing in their fourth Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, both Shelby Wilson and Patricia Holt will each look to post a strong finish in the final home tournament of their BGSU careers. Both seniors are coming off an eighth-place finish at the rain shortened EKU Colonel Classic on April 4 in which the two Falcon leaders carded identical scores of 76, +4. At last year's event, Holt carded rounds of 80 and 84 to finish in a tie for 29th-place overall with a combined score of 164, +20, while Wilson finished only one stroke back of Holt with a score of 165, +21, to finish in a tie for 35th-place overall.
Mikayla Baer is coming off her best round of the spring season in which she shot a 75, +3, to post a third-place finish and earn all-tournament honors at the EKU Colonel Classic. The sophomore has played in a total of six events this season, carding a low round 74 at the Cardinal Classic and a stroke average of 78.60 overall on the season. Last year, Baer paced the Falcons' second team with a two-round combined score of 165, +21, and a 35th-place finish.
After playing in just three tournaments for the Falcons last year as a freshman, Fran Rodriguez has not only improved her game over her sophomore season, but she has also become a contributor for the Falcons having teed-off in seven events for BGSU thus far this year. With three top-15 place finishes, Rodriguez has carded a low round 73 this year and has posted a season stroke average of 79.31 heading into play this weekend. At last year's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational event, Rodriguez was one of three Falcons to finish in a tie for 35th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 165, +21.
BGSU's Hannah Lewis will be playing in her third Dolores Black Falcon Invitational over the two-day event, carding a low round 79 over the second round of play last year. The junior has turned in two rounds of 72 on the season, a team-low, and has posted a stroke average of 79.33 over 15 rounds of golf on the year. Lewis will look to improve on her finish from last year's tournament, in which she finished in a tie for 49th-place overall with a two-day score of 167, +23.
Junior Lily Bartell will look to defend your individual title at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational where she won the event last spring with rounds of 76 and 75 for a tournament low combined 36-hole score of 151, +7. Playing in her eighth event for the Falcons on the year, Bartell has logged a stroke average of 79.93 overall for the year and is coming off a round of 82, +10, at the rain shortened EKU Colonel Classic on April 4.
Madelynn Swank, Lauren Diehl, Julia Hoffman and Miranda Dubler will all be making their spring debuts this weekend at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
Swank, who competed in three events this past fall, recorded a first-place finish at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament in September. The first year Falcon has posted a low round 75 on the season and will look to make an impact in the lineup for the Coach Young this weekend.
Diehl, who also played in three events during the fall slate, last competed in the Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Sept. 27-28 in which she finished in a tie for 21st-place overall with a 36-hole combined score of 164, +20. At last year's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, the junior turned in rounds of 84 and 87 to finish in a tie for 65th-place overall with her combined score of 171, +27.
Both Hoffman and Dubler will tee-off for the Falcons for the third time this season, as both competed for BGSU at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament and the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in September. Hoffman will be playing in her third Dolores Black Falcon Invitational this weekend having posted rounds of 90, 89, 89 and 90 over her previous two showings, while like Swank, Dubler will be making not only her spring debut, but her first appearance at the Falcons' home event this spring.
At last year's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, the Falcons had a team place third overall with a combined score of 637, +61, and a second team finish in 14th-place with a team score of 673, +97, while Bartell earned medalist honors with a tournament low score of 151, +7, to record the individual tournament win.
The Falcons have placed third overall as a team in each of the last two Dolores Black Falcon Invitational events.
A recap, along with the results, will be available at the conclusion of play each day.
