Knoxville, Tenn. – Andrea Alt earned a Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying time in the steeplechase and the 400 relay team posted the second-fastest time in the conference this year as the Bowling Green State University track and field team had a banner day to close out the Tennessee Relays Powered by Sea Ray.
Alt ran the steeplechase in 10:49.90 to post a time more than eight seconds faster than the automatic qualifying mark for the MAC Championships. It is the third fastest time in the conference this year and was about three seconds shy of her own personal best which she set at the MAC Championships a year ago. Alt earned a seventh place finish at the Tennessee Relays.
While Alt ran well in the distance event, the 400 relay team of Brittany Sinclair, Alicia Arnold, Kera Lamotte and Dorresha Green excelled in the sprints. The team ran the relay in 46.22 seconds, the second-fastest time both in BGSU history and in the MAC this year. It came up just .05 seconds shy of the school record, which Sinclair also holds along with Jeanette Pettigrew, Felicia Jefferson and Allison Weimer in 2013.
Sophomore Makenzie Wheat also represented for the throwers, showing the depth of this year's track and field team across all event groups. Wheat placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 49-feet-7, the exact personal best mark she threw a week ago at the Toledo Dual. She already is an automatic MAC qualifier in the event and is ranked third in the conference.
Freshman Kyla Paster continues to develop in the jumps and she placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 36-5.5. She is one of two Falcons ranked among the top seven in the MAC in the event.
"We took a nice step forward as a program this weekend," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "Individually there were a lot of positives, we largely competed very well. Now we have about a month before the MAC Championships and this is a critical time for us to take advantage of the opportunities that are in front of us to best position the team heading into that meet."
Bowling Green will split the squad for two meets this upcoming weekend. The Falcons will take part in the Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Ball State, Friday as well as the Virginia Challenge Friday and Saturday.
