Porter Leads Falcons And Leaps To Auto Mark
April 17, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Muncie, Ind. – Raven Porter set a new personal best in the high jump to lead the Bowling Green State University track and field team at the Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Ball State, Friday. In all, the Falcons earned five top-three finishes at the meet. Ball State will be the site of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May.
Porter jumped 5-feet-7 and tied for second, bettering her previous best outdoor leap of 5-5. She also bettered her season-best jump of 5-4.5 when she won the Toledo Dual. She leaped 5-6.25 at the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in February, earning a spot on the podium with a seventh place finish.
For the day, BGSU entered student-athletes in numerous events in which they had never competed before or had rarely done so. Redshirt sophomore Mackenzie McMillin, for instance, placed second in the 1500 with a time of 4:46.24 but had never run a distance shorter than 3000 previously. The team's other second-place finish came in the 400 relay with a time of 47.71.
In the 200, Taylor Rambo posted a season-best time of 25.14 seconds and finished third. Connor Kempf added a season-best time in the 400 hurdles of 1:04.39 to also place third.
In the 100, Gabrielle Edwards bested her previous career best time of 12.54 seconds with a mark of 12.52.
"We had a good look at the facility today," BGSU Track & Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "Even though we competed in many off events, we had some nice individual results. Those were highlighted by Raven reaching the MAC auto mark in the high jump."
Senior sprinter Brittany Sinclair competed in the 400 at the Virginia Challenge and also excelled. She set a new personal best time of 55.51 seconds to reach a MAC automatic qualifying mark and place ninth out of 31 runners. She is already the top-ranked athlete in the MAC in the 400 hurdles and her performance Friday night moves her to the top of the conference in the 400 as well.
Bowling Green will compete in two different locations in the upcoming week with some student-athletes heading to the Gina Relays, hosted by Hillsdale, and others competing at the Ashland Alumni Open.
