Reiser Climbs Leaderboard At NCAA Regionals
May 29, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Jacksonville, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore Kori Reiser threw the discus 152-feet-4 at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round Friday, finishing in 36th place at the meet. For Reiser, it is the second consecutive year in which she has placed in the top 40 at the regional in the event and she is the first Falcon to compete at regionals in the discus twice in a career.
Reiser was the third Falcon to compete at the NCAA Regional meet this week after Makenzie Wheat threw the shot put and Brittany Sinclair ran the 400 hurdles Thursday. All three have posted results equal to or better than their seeds entering the meet.
Reiser was seeded No. 45 entering Friday's competition and earned her way to the meet by virtue of a season-best throw at the Mid-American Conference Championships two weeks ago. She wasted little time Friday, recording her best throw on her first attempt. She followed that up with tosses of 143-8 and 146-8.
"For Kori, this was a good opportunity to gain more experience," BGSU Track & Field coach Lou Snelling said. "Hopefully, she can use this to move up the ladder next year."
Bowling Green will have one more opportunity to advance a student-athlete to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Saturday. Brooke Pleger, the top-ranked hammer thrower in the country, will compete at 1:30 pm. The top 12 finishers in the hammer throw will move on to the national championships.
