FOCUS ON THE FALCONS
Bowling Green and third-year head coach Lindsay Basalyga returns 10 starters and a total of 16 letterwinners from last year's team and added a redshirt-freshman and 10 new Falcons in the 2015 recruiting class. Despite the loss of only four letterwinners from a year ago, BGSU is still stacked with youth as 19 members of the 27 players on the 2015 roster are either sophomores or freshmen. However, of the Falcons' 15 total goals last season, 13 were recorded by a total of eight returners on the roster this season. BGSU also returns starting goalkeeper Lauren Cadel, who led the MAC and was third among all NCAA Division I goalkeepers with a BGSU single-season record 146 saves in 2014.
Â
PREVIEW OF CHICAGO STATE
The Cougars will kick off the program's second season in 2015, having gone 1-17-1 overall last season in the programs inaugural year. In the lone exhibition contest of the 2015 preseason, CSU defeated Purdue Calumet 3-1 in a contest that was divided into three 30 minute periods. Chloe Cain (4', 59') and Sarah Drury accounted for the three scores for the Cougars who held a 3-0 lead heading into the third and final 30 minute session. A total of four players registered three shots apiece for the Cougars, while Audra Wisehart and Taylor Conroy each tallied two saves in goal for CSU in the exhibition win.
Â
FALCONS VERSUS THE COUGARS ON THE PITCH
BGSU is 1-0-0 all-time versus the Chicago State Cougars, as the two teams met last year in CSU's inaugural season. BGSU defeated CSU 8-0 on Sept. 7, in Chicago for one of the Falcons' most lopsided wins in the program's history.
Â
PREVIEW OF IPFW
The Mastodons, who will open up their 2015 regular season slate at Northern Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m., will head into Cochrane Field on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. tilt against the Falcons. Last season, IPFW posted a record of 2-14-2 overall and was 0-10-0 on the road for the year. In IPFW's long exhibition match of the 2015 preseason, the Mastodons and the UIC Flames played to a 0-0 draw over the 90 minute contest. Offensively, IPFW totaled nine shots for the game led by Rachel Good's five shot attempts, as the Mastodons were outshot by the Flames 22-9 for the match. IPFW's Kiley Dunning tallied two saves in the first half of play, while Haley Lydon picked up three saves in the second half in goal.
Â
FALCONS VERSUS THE MASTODONS ON THE PITCH
The Falcons are 3-0 all-time versus IPFW on the pitch in women's soccer action. BGSU won the first meeting 4-0 between the two teams back in 2008 and then went on to shutout the Mastodons 1-0 in both 2009 and 2011.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"I really like where we are at as a team heading into opening weekend. This is the sharpest and most organized we've been at the start of the season relative to the last two years. We are starting a veteran lineup who all have a lot of experience under their belt which is exactly where we want to be at this point in our rebuilding process. Overall our preseason really flew by. The culture enjoys competing and players are eyes wide open when it comes to coaching which has made our preseason a lot of fun to be a part of."Â - Lindsay Basalyga, Head Coach
Â
FALCONS ALL-TIME VERSUS THE 2015 FOES
BGSU enters the 2015 season having played all but one of its opponents prior to this year. The Falcons are 90-124-28 all-time versus their 19 regular season foes in 2015, including having posted double digit wins over Buffalo and Kent State, as well as wins over Akron, Kent State, Ohio and Chicago State in 2014.
Â
PICKED FIFTH IN THE EAST FOR 2015
The Falcons were pickedto finish fifth in the East Division by the MAC Coaches in the preseason poll. Buffalo is the favorite to win the East Division regular season title, while Ball State and Western Michigan are the tied favorite to win the West Division. In the East following Buffalo, Miami is predicted to finish second with Kent State (3), Ohio (4), Bowling Green (5) and Akron (6).
Â
CAREER LEADER – LAUREN CADEL
Redshirt-junior Cadel is already BGSU's career leader in games with double digit saves with only two full seasons on the pitch for the Falcons. With her six total games with 10 or more saves last year in 2014, Cadel sits atop of the career record books with 12 career games with double digit saves. She also registered six games with double digit saves in her first year between the pipes for BGSU in 2013.
Â
EXHIBITION SEASON
In the Falcons' lone preseason tune up prior to the 2015 season, the BGSU team saw a total of 19 different Falcons take the pitch in a hard fought 90 minute exhibition contest versus the Pittsburgh Panthers out of the Atlantic Coast Conference at Ambrose Urbanic Field at Petersen Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Pitt used a goal in the ninth minute to come away with 1-0 win in the exhibition match. The young Falcons started six underclassmen in the friendly, with six others coming off the bench for Coach Basalyga. 2014 All-MAC Second Team member Cadel made four stops in goal for the falcons in 77 minutes of play, while senior Alexis Smith spelled Cadel in the second half to play the final 13 minutes of the contest. Senior Haley Parkinson and junior Paige Amodio each recorded a shot for the Falcons.
 Â
YOUTH MOVEMENT
The 2015 BGSU women's soccer roster boasts a total of 19 sophomores and freshmen out of the 27 player squad. In fact, of the 19 total underclassmen, 11 are either redshirt-freshmen or true freshmen who will be making their intercollegiate debuts this season.
Â
THE RETURNING CORE
The Falcons have a strong core of returners for the 2015 season, as Coach Basalyga's squad returns 10 starters and 16 total letterwinners. A total of 13 of the 16 returners logged over 500 minutes on the field for the Falcons in 2014, while eight of the returners accounted for a total of 14 goals last year. BGSU returns its leading goalkeeper in Cadel (146 saves), its leading goal scorer in Skylar Fleak (5 goals) and its assists leader in Leah Runkle (4 assists), while 10 other returners all played in at least 16 matches for the Falcons last season.
Â
YEAR THREE OF THE PROCESS
This season will be the third year under head coach Lindsay Basalyga who took over the Falcons program in January 2013. With the task of rebuilding the program which had won a total of only 16 matches in the four years prior to Basalyga's hiring, the Falcons have showed continued improvement towards the process of rebuilding the program over the last two seasons. BGSU has improved its when total over the last two years under Basalyga's leadership and have made huge strides in restoring the program back to when the Falcons made the MAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on a consistent basis.
Â
ON TAP FOR THE FALCONS
The Falcons will hit the road for their next two contests, as BGSU takes on Morehead State on Friday, Aug. 28, at 6 p.m. in Morehead, Ky. before renewing its annual rivalry with the Detroit Titans in Detroit, Mich. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m.
