Upperclassmen Lead Falcons After Two Rounds of Play in New Mexico

Albuquerque, N.M. – Juniors Jose Narro and Brett Rinker both completed day one of play at the 2015 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in the top-10 overall, as the upperclassmen led the Falcons to a 36-hole combined team score of 591, +15, over the first two rounds of play on Friday at the UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
In a very strong tournament field, the Falcons will enter the final day of play on Saturday in 10th-place overall with a team score of 591, +15. BGSU carded rounds of 298 and 293 on the day and currently sit in front of Nevada (595), Colorado (598), Denver (600), Louisiana Tech (600), Arizona (606) and UTEP (609).
"The guys played well as a team today at an extremely hard course," head coach Kevin Farrell commented after the second round concluded. "Especially the upperclassmen. They played really well today and I would put them up with the best two upperclassmen in our conference."
Narro wrapped up day one in a tie for fifth-place overall with his two-round combined score of 140, -4 under par. With his rounds of 72, even par, and 68, -4 under par, Narro has registered par or lower on all five of his rounds of play for the Falcons' thus far this fall season. He totaled one eagle, six birdies and 25 pars over his 54 holes of play on Friday.
Right behind Narro is Rinker, as he led the Falcons with a first round 70, -2 under par, and then turned in a second round 72, even par, to give him a 36-hole score of 142, -2 under par, and place him in a tie for 10th-place overall. The junior penciled in seven birdies to go along with 24 pars on the day.
Freshman Pablo Heredia Iglesias posted rounds of 76, +4, and 77, +5, to finish day one in a tie for 69th-place overall with his 36-hole score of 153, +9. The Spaniard had an up and down two rounds of play on Friday, totaling a team-best eight birdies, but just 14 pars over his two rounds of play.
Sophomores Cameron Michalak and Mitchell Kontak each improved from the first round to the second round, as the two finished day one in a tie at 90th and 94th-place, respectively. Michalak picked up three birdies and carded rounds of 80, +8, and 78, +6, for his 36-hole score of 158, +14, while Kontak was up and down with five birdies over his rounds of 84, +12, and 76, +4, to give him his two-round combined score of 160, +16.
The New Mexico Lobos, the host institution, sit atop of the team leaderboard with a 36-hole team score of 555, -21 under par, with rounds of 279 and 276.
Colorado State is in second-place overall with a score of 569, -7 under par, while Texas Tech (571), UNLV (577) and San Diego State (584) round out the top-five.
The final round of play is set for an 8:00 a.m. MDT shotgun start tomorrow morning.
