Women's Golf Continues Fall Season Competition At Kzoo Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – After a week off from competition, the Bowling Green women's golf team returns to action on Monday, Oct. 3 through Tuesday Oct. 4 as it participates in the Kzoo Classic, hosted by Western Michigan.
The first Kzoo Classic event is to be held at The Moors Golf Club in Portage, Mich., on a par 72 and 6,163 yard course. The 54-hole tournament will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday in which the teams will complete 36-holes of play, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday morning in a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
The nine team field will consist of Bowling Green, Ball State, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Davenport, Detroit, Fort Wayne, Ohio, and host school Western Michigan.
The Falcons will send out the same lineup as at the Ball State Cardinal Classic two weeks back, with the addition of freshman Jessica Madry. Starting with sophomore Erin Fahey in the number one position, the Falcons will send out freshman Brooke Nolte in the second spot, followed by senior Fran Rodriguez, and junior Madelynn Swank, while Madry rounds out the team lineup. Sophomore Sarah Kern will be competing individually for the Falcons at the Kzoo Classic.
The Falcons are coming off of an 11th place finish at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State on Sept. 19 and Sept. 20. Bowling Green carded a low round team score of 301 in the final 18 holes of the tournament, ultimately finishing with a final team score of 924, +60 in its third consecutive visit to the annual event.
After tallying a third round score of 75 at the Cardinal Classic two weeks back, Fahey finished on top of the Falcons lineup for the second tournament in a row and tied for 19th-place overall. The Austin, Texas native carded scores of 77, 74 and 75 for a two-day total of 226, +10. In the first event of the fall season, Fahey topped the team with a tie for ninth place individually in a score of 223, +7 at the Redbird Invitational.
Freshman Nolte came in the second spot on the Bowling Green rankings by carding a low round of 74 in the third round at the Cardinal Classic, after scoring 76 and 82 in the first two rounds, marking a two-day total of 232, +16. The native of Melissa, Texas ultimately tied for 43rd overall by notching a team-leading 38 pars over the course of the tournament. Nolte made her collegiate debut earlier this season at the Redbird Invitational, in which she shot a final score of 232, +16 and tied for 31st overall.
After shooting a third round of 78 at the Cardinal Classic, Rodriguez finished in a tie for 46th-place. The Flower Mound, Texas native marked scores of 79 and 76 in the first and second rounds for a two-day total of 233, +17, with 37 pars. At the Redbird Invitational earlier this season, Rodriguez marked a 235, +19 total score, and shot a low round of 76 in the final day of play.
Coming off of a final score of 241, +25 earned at the Cardinal Classic is Swank. The native of Clarendon Hills, Ill. tallied rounds of 84, 76, and 81 in her second event of the season. At the Redbird Invitational, Swank carded rounds of 80, 79, and 77 for a two-day total of 236, +20 and ultimately tied for 44th overall.
Freshman Madry made her first appearance for the Falcons earlier this season at the Redbird Invitational, in which she competed as an individual. The native of Houston, Texas carded rounds of 82, 85, and 83 for a two-day total of 250, +34 in her collegiate debut.
It was at the Cardinal Classic two weeks ago that sophomore Kern made her collegiate debut, in which she scored 239, +23, and led the squad with seven birdies throughout the tournament. The Springboro, Ohio native shot a low round of 74 on the final day of competition to improve in the standings from 82nd place, to a final placing of 65th overall.
