Women's Golf Sits Sixth After First Day At Kzoo Classic

PORTAGE, Mich. – After the first day of action and 36-holes of play, the Bowling Green women's golf team sits sixth overall in the 10-team field at the Kzoo Classic, hosted by Western Michigan.
At The Moors Golf Club, the Falcons finished the first day's action with a total team score of 622, +46, and tallied seven birdies in addition to 50 pars through the first two rounds. Bowling Green carded a team score of 308 in the first round, followed by 314 in the second round.
"We had our best opening round of the fall, but we were not able to finish strong coming down the stretch to better that this afternoon," Bowling Green women's golf head coach Stephanie Young said. "The team will make adjustments and look to come out stronger in tomorrow's final round."
Freshman Brooke Nolte led the Falcons in the first day of competition, as the Melissa, Texas native marked a 77 in the first round, followed by a 74 in the second round. Nolte is tied for ninth overall after the first day at the Kzoo Classic, heading into the final 18 holes.
Senior Fran Rodriguez was also able to shave a couple strokes off across the first 36-holes as she first carded a 79, followed by a score of 75 in the second round. The native of Flower Mound, Texas holds a score of 154, +10 and sits tied for 14th overall after chalking up four birdies on the day.
With a score of 158, +14, sophomore Erin Fahey is tied for 22nd in the tournament. The Houston, Texas native carded a score of 73 in the first round, followed by an 85 in the second round. The first round score of 73 was a round low on the Falcons squad in Monday's competition.
Rounding out the Bowling Green lineup is freshman Jessica Madry and junior Madelynn Swank, who are each tied with scores of 164, +20. The pair is tied for 38th overall, after Madry earned scores of 79 and 85 in the first day of action, while Swank carded rounds of 84 and 80.
Competing individually for the Falcons is sophomore Sarah Kern. The native of Springboro, Ohio tallied rounds of 83 and 85 in the first and second rounds, respectively, for a current score of 168, +24. Kern sits tied for 45th after the first day of competition.
The Bowling Green women's golf team will conclude the Kzoo Classic tomorrow with the final 18-holes of play, beginning with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
