BGSU Women’s Golf Ready for the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invite

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will carry on its spring season at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational on Mar. 14-15 co-hosted by Oral Roberts University and S.F. Austin University at the Trophy Club Country Club in Dallas, Texas.
The spring break invite will consist of 54-holes at the par 72, 6,101-yards Trophy Club Country Club golf course. The event will start with 36 holes over two rounds of play on Monday, Mar. 14, and will conclude with a final round of 18 holes of play on Tuesday, Mar. 15.
"We are grateful for the chance to compete against teams from all over the country this week," commented head coach Stephanie Young. "Thanks to both Oral Roberts and S.F. Austin for organizing such an outstanding field and affording us the opportunity to play such a prestigious golf club here in the state of Texas. The team is focused and excited to build on our strong spring play."
The strong 20-team tournament field includes teams from 14 different states in SIUE, North Dakota State, Creighton, Arkansas-Little Rock, Southern Illinois, Indiana State, Northern Iowa, Wichita State, Missouri State, Farleigh Dickinson, Houston Baptist, Louisiana-Monroe, UTRGV, Arkansas State, Bradley, Georgetown, Illinois State, Bowling Green and co-hosts Oral Roberts and S.F. Austin.
Coach Young will send out a lineup of Lily Bartell, Erin Fahey, Hannah Lewis, Mikayla Baer and Fran Rodriguez to tee-off for the Falcons over the two-day event.
Teeing-off for the Falcons for the second straight tournament at the No. 1 spot is Bartell, as the senior led the Falcons with a 24th-place finish last time out at the 2016 Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona to end the month of February. Bartell carded rounds of 77, 74 and 74 to place in a tie for 24th overall with her season-low 54-hole score of 225, +9. The senior leads the Falcons with a team-low stroke average of 77.61 overall on the season, having played in 18 rounds over six total tournaments.
Returning home for the first time as a Falcon and playing at the No. 2 position is Fahey. The first-year Falcon has played in all six events for BGSU on the year, posting a stroke average of 77.89 thus far this year. Last time out, Fahey shot rounds of 79, 73 and 76 to finish in a tie for 36th-place overall with a BGSU career-low 54-hole score of 228, +12 at the Rio Verde Invitational.
Both Lewis and Baer will both be competing for the Falcons in their seventh event overall on the year this week at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational.
Lewis, who will play at the No. 3 slot for BGSU this week, is coming off a 54-hole score of 234, +18, at the Rio Verde Invitational in which she recorded rounds of 76, 82 and 76 over the three rounds of play. Lewis enters play at the spring invite with a season stroke average of 77.72 overall on the year, which ranks second on the team.
At the No.4 position for the Falcons will be Baer, as the junior registered rounds of 78, 78 and 82 overall her three rounds of play at the Rio Verde Invitational on Feb. 26-28. The junior currently has posted a stroke average of 77.94 over 18 rounds of play this year and has turned in a Falcon low round of 71 on the year.
Like Fahey, Rodriguez will be returning to her home state of Texas this Monday and Tuesday, and will play in the No. 5 spot for the Falcons. The junior returns to the lineup after going 2-2-0 overall at the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Florida in the spring opener back on Feb. 8-9. Rodriguez has played in five total events for the Falcons this season, carding a low round 73 and a stroke average of 79.20 over 15 rounds of play overall.
The Falcons have four top-five team finishes thus far this season and will look to add to that with a solid two-days of play at the Trophy Club Country Club in Dallas, Texas this week.
