Bowling Green, Ohio – The first annual Mr. and Miss Falcon pageant took place on Sunday evening, where BGSU SAAC helped raise $505 for Special Olympics.
A total of eight student-athletes participated in the pageant: Jen Reyes (women's soccer), Rachel Perry (women's diver), Jon Wenning (men's cross country), Sarah Baer (women's basketball), Zac Bartman (football), Katee Hinkle (softball), Laura Mitchell (gymnastics), and Rasheed Worrell (men's basketball).
"This was the first year for this event so we were very excited that we were able to raise $505 for Special Olympics," said Assistant Coordinator for Student-Athlete Services Meghan Horn. "In the past, SAAC held a talent show to raise money but the committee decided to try something new this year. The student-athletes that participated in the pageant did a great job and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully next year the pageant pool grows and we will be able to raise even more money for a great organization."
The pageant consisted of three rounds, where each contestant took the stage to perform each round. The first round was introductions and uniform wear. All contestants introduced themselves wearing their uniforms, gave a fun fact about themselves, and were judged on the creativity of their uniform. The second round was the talent portion. Each contestant was judged on the creativity of their talent and the execution of the performance. The final round was the Question round and "formal wear". Each contestant had to dress up and answer one question they were given.
There was a total of seven judges on the panel at the pageant, each being supporters of Falcon Athletics. Jennifer Roos (women's basketball coach), Chris Bergeron (men's hockey coach), Kerrie Turner (women's gymnastics coach), Mr. and Mrs. Melchi (Falcon supporters), and Mr. and Mrs. Meserve (FAR/Falcon supporters) were all judges at the pageant.
Once all three rounds were completed, Diver Rachel Perry and Men's Cross Country runner Jon Wenning were crowned the first Mr. and Miss Falcon.
