Five Falcons Named to CSC Men’s At-Large Academic All-District Team

Hudak from golf and Barber, Burke, O’Hara, Swankler from hockey earn CSC recognition
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Five student-athletes from Bowling Green State University have been named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men's At-Large Academic All-District Team. Alex Barber (hockey), Nathan Burke (hockey), Darin Hudak (golf), Ryan O'Hara (hockey), and Austen Swankler (hockey) represent the Falcons on this year's CSC Academic All-District list.
Bowling Green CSC Academic All-District Selections
Alex Barber, Senior, Hockey, MBA, 3.914 GPA
Alex Barber served as team captain for the Falcons for two seasons and earned CCHA Scholar-Athlete recognition both years. He scored his 100th career point on Dec. 30, tallying a pair of assists in a 5-2 win over RPI. This was one of nine multi-point games, which was second on the team and third in the conference. He concluded his career with 177 games played, fifth in school history, and 108 points. Barber also earned the team's Jack Gregory Scholar-Athlete Award.
Nathan Burke, Senior, Hockey, MBA, 3.940 GPA
Nathan Burke earns At-Large Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year. In 2022, he became the eighth player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American. Burke was a second-team All-CCHA selection this year, scoring 17 regular season goals to rank third in the league. He led the Falcons and ranked second in the CCHA with seven power play tallies. He was named CCHA Forward of the Week once and is also a two-time CCHA Scholar-Athlete.
Darin Hudak, Sophomore, Golf, Business Analytics and Intelligence, 3.943 GPA
Darin Hudak earns his first career CSC Academic All-District recognition after a stellar year on the course and in the classroom. He was second on the team at +3 at the Grandover Collegiate, helping the Falcons to a sixth-place finish. At a tri-match against Miami (OH) and Northern Kentucky, he shot -2 to finish sixth. He was -2 again at the Ernie Denham Classic, finish fifth individually and helping BGSU place sixth. Hudak also had BGSU's best finish at the MAC Championship, tying for 18th.
Ryan O'Hara, Sophomore, Hockey, Business Analytics and Intelligence, 3.882 GPA
Ryan O'Hara tallied 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points, ranking third on the team in all three categories. He had seven multi-point games, including a five-game stretch where he totaled 11 points. He tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (3) and was second on the squad in plus /minus (+9). He was named CCHA Forward of the Week once and earned the first CCHA Scholar-Athlete recognition of his career. He was also selected as the program's Bill & Helen Lloyd Most Improved Player.
Austen Swankler, Sophomore, Hockey, Business, 3.553 GPA
Austen Swankler led the CCHA with 44 points (19G-25A), BGSU's highest single-season total since 2006. He had a 19-game scoring streak during the season, matching the NCAA's longest since 2006. He had a team-high 10 multi-point games and led BGSU in game-winning goals (3), power play points (16), and plus/minus (+13). The forward was named HCA Player of the Month once, CCHA Forward of the Month twice, and CCHA Forward of the Week twice. He also earned first-team All-CCHA honors and the first CCHA Scholar-Athlete award of his career.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Those honorees will be announced in June.
