Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team will host Toledo Friday evening at Whittaker Track Complex for the annual Battle of I-75 dual meet. Throwing events begin at 3 pm and running events are set to start at 4 pm. The Falcons have won each of the past three years and will look to extend that streak to four Friday.
"It's not about the individual number," BGSU Head Coach Lou Snelling said. "That stuff doesn't matter. Go beat the person in blue and yellow and that's all we're focused on."
A year ago, Bowling Green won on Toledo's home track 103-96 as the Falcons posted victories in 11-of-18 events. The Falcons led by five points heading into the final event, the 1600 relay, and BGSU needed just to get around the track cleanly. The Falcons, though, did more than that as Taylor Rambo overtook the Toledo runner on the home stretch to win the race. The Falcons won 107-75 in 2014 and 93-90 in 2013 in the first year of the re-introduction of the dual meet.
BGSU and Toledo had competed regularly until 2000 when the series dissolved. The Falcons hold a 12-4 edge in the all-time series.
The meet comes on the heels of the Falcons' first indoor meet of the season as BGSU competed at the Raleigh Relays. The team earned four Mid-American Conference automatic bids at the meet. Junior Makenzie Wheat and redshirt sophomore Aliyah Gustafson both hit MAC auto marks in the shot put, while Raven Porter did so in the high jump. Kayla Velasquez added a qualifying mark in the hammer throw.
