Three Falcon Golfers in the Top-25 After Day One at the EKU Colonel Classic

Richmond, Ky. – A total of three Falcons ended day one in the top-25 overall on the individual leaderboard for the Bowling Green State University women's golf team at the 2016 EKU Colonel Classic on Friday, April 1, hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the par 72, 5,819-yards University Club of Arlington in Richmond, Kentucky.
As a team, the Falcons carded a team low round 304, +16, over the first round of play to lead the tournament after 18 holes. BGSU followed with a second round score of 315, +27, in the afternoon session to finish the day in sixth-place overall with a 36-hole team score of 619, +43.
The Falcons, who are just eight strokes behind the tournament team leader, sit ahead of five other teams in Austin Peay (626), Cleveland State (633), Belmont (638), Northern Kentucky (644) and Dayton (650).
"I am proud of our strong first round. We fell short of executing the plan this afternoon, but it is a jam packed leaderboard," stated head coach Stephanie Young. "The team is looking forward to coming out tomorrow and giving it our very best effort to move up."
Pacing the Falcons on day one was Lily Bartell with rounds of 76 and 74 for a combined 36-hole score of 150, +6, which places her in a tie for fourth-place overall through two rounds of play. The senior carded a total of four birdies, a team-high, and 22 pars on Friday.
Fellow senior Hannah Lewis is in a tie for 14th-place overall with her 36-hole score of 156, +12. Lewis, who posted rounds of 74 and 82 on Friday, tallied three birdies and 21 pars over her two rounds of play. The Michigan native leads the team with a par-3 scoring average of 3.13, +1, and is also tied for the team lead with a par-5 scoring average of 5.00, even par.
Just one stroke behind Lewis is BGSU's Erin Fahey with her two-round combined score of 157, +13. The Falcon freshman recorded rounds of 76 and 81 over the first 36-holes of play to put herself in a tie for 22nd overall heading into the final round of play on Saturday. Fahey concluded day one with a team-high 23 pars over her two rounds of play.
On the heels of Fahey is fellow Falcon Fran Rodriguez with a 36-hole score of 158, +14. Tied for 29th overall, Rodriguez turned in rounds of 80 and 78 on Friday. She finished day one of play with one birdie and 20 pars over her first 36 holes of play.
Rounding out the lineup for the Falcons on Friday was Mikayla Baer with rounds of 78 and 86. With her combined two-round score of 164, +20, the junior is in a tie for 52nd-place overall heading into play on Saturday. Baer registered two birdies and 16 pars on Friday.
Also playing in the two-day event as individuals are Madelynn Swank, Lauren Diehl and Miranda Dubler.
Swank wrapped up the first day of play in a tie for 32nd with her 36-hole score of 159, +15. The sophomore carded rounds of 80 and 79 on Friday, which included one birdie and 22 pars overall.
In a tie for 41st after two rounds of play is Diehl with her 36-hole score of 162, +18. The senior recorded two birdies and 19 pars over her rounds of 82 and 80 on the day.
Four strokes behind Diehl sits Dubler in a tie for 57th-place with a two-round combined score of 166, +22. The sophomore posted back-to-back rounds of 83, +11, which included a total of 18 pars overall.
Host Eastern Kentucky sits atop of the team leaderboard after two rounds of play with a 36-hole team score of 611, +35. Behind EKU is a trio of teams tied for second-place overall in Ohio, Ball State and Tennessee Tech at 617, +41.
The third and final round of play will tee-off tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, at 9 a.m.
