Bowling Green, Ohio – With the annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational set for April 9-10 at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio snowed out due, head coach Stephanie Young and the Bowling Green State University women's golf team have added a tournament for this weekend, April 16-17, called the Snowman Classic. The Falcons will co-host the dual match with the Ohio Bobcats.
The two-day, 36-hole event is slated for 18 holes of play on both Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6,003-yards golf course at the Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Ohio.
"We are excited and grateful for the opportunity to compete this weekend in order to best prepare for the upcoming MAC Championships on April 22-24. Of course the original plan was to end the regular season competition at home with the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational. However, after the historic snow and cancellation we needed to call an audible and set something else up and running," Coach Young said. "There has always been a great respect and special comradery between BGSU and Ohio University. The two teams match up well for a dual competition that will better prepare all of our student-athletes for the upcoming conference championship. Thank you to the Lancaster Country Club for allowing us to host this event on such short notice."
For the dual match event, the Falcons will send out the lineup of Lily Bartell, Erin Fahey, Fran Rodriguez, Hannah Lewis and Mikayla Baer.
Coming off an 11th-place finish at the EKU Colonel Classic two weeks ago, Bartell will tee-off for the Falcons at the No. 1 spot for the fourth straight tournament. The senior, who has posted back-to-back top-12 finishes, carded rounds of 76, 74 and 83 for a 54-hole score of 233, +17, on Apr. 1-2 at the Colonel Classic. Bartell leads the Falcons on the season with a stroke average of 77.17 over 24 rounds of play on the year and will look to close out her last year at BGSU on a high note.
Teeing-off at the No. 2 position is Fahey. The freshman is second on the team with a stroke average of 77.46 overall on the year and has recorded two straight top-15 place finishes over her last two events. She finished in a tie for 15th with a 54-hole score of 223, +13, at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational in March and most recently placed in a tie for 14th overall at the EKU Colonel Classic with a 54-hole score of 234, +18, to kick off the month of April.
Rodriguez will compete for the Falcons' lineup at the No. 3 spot this weekend where she has played three times before thus far this year. The junior, who is playing in her ninth event on the year for the Falcons, has posted a stroke average of 79.29 over 21 rounds of stroke play for the year.
Lewis will tee-off at the No. 4 slot for the Falcons. The senior ranks third on the team with a stroke average of 78.13 over 24 rounds of play thus far this year and has played in every event for Coach Young's squad this season. Lewis, who has three top-25 finishes on the year, will attempt to finish out her senior season with a strong push going into the MAC Championship in one week.
Baer has played in all nine events for the Falcons thus far this year, including the MAC Women's Match Play Challenge in February, and will tee-off at the No. 5 spot in the Falcons' lineup. The junior, who has carded a BGSU individual low round of 71 on the year, has recorded a stroke average of 78.46 over 24 rounds of play this year.
Tee-times for Saturday are set to begin at 2 p.m. ET. Sunday will begin with an 8:30 a.m. ET tee-time.
Daily results will be available after each round of play at www.BGSUFalcons.com.
