Terre Haute, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University track and field team leads the Gibson Invitational after day two of competition, scoring 29 points to pace 12 teams at the meet. Through limited events over the first two days of competition, the Falcons racked up points in the hammer throw and the 5000.
While BGSU leads with 29 points, host school Indiana State is right behind with 25, followed by Central Michigan with 24. Illinois State and Eastern Illinois have each scored 13 points, while Loyola and Marquette have five points each. Valparaiso has two points and Western Michigan finished Friday evening with one point.
Just four events have been scored through the first two days, but Bowling Green placed three competitors among the top seven in the hammer throw and earned two of the top three results in the 5,000. Despite weather conditions that ranged from wind to rain to hail to cold temperatures, the Falcons prevailed.
"The team did a really nice job staying focused and competing in tough conditions," BGSU coach Lou Snelling said.
In the hammer throw, Kori Reiser led the way among Falcons with a throw of 166-feet-7 to place second. Kayla Velasquez was fourth at 156-5 and Allie Farmer set a new personal best at 154-4 to finish seventh.
Bowling Green also earned points in the 5000 as Jasmine Redman finished second in a time of 17:29.90. She was followed by teammate Becca Rae less than three seconds later in 17:32.78.
The third and final day of the meet will take place Saturday and the Falcons kick off competition at 11 am.
