Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team heads into the third weekend of outdoor competition this week as the Falcons head to the Gibson Invitational, hosted by Indiana State. While the meet begins Thursday with the multi-events, BGSU will compete Friday and Saturday.
Â
Twelve teams are expected to compete at the meet, with MAC schools Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan in attendance.
Â
"We are going to see more competition across the board this weekend," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "There will be a number of MAC schools there and a lot of really good mid-major programs. They have a great facility that just opened last year. Can we rise to the level of competition this weekend?"
Â
The Gibson Invitational follows a successful dual meet at home for the Falcons. On Friday, BGSU beat rival Toledo for the fourth year in a row 111-86. BGSU won 14-of-19 events and the Falcons earned 12 individual event victories from 12 different student-athletes.
Â
The Falcons enter the meet with five Mid-American Conference automatic qualifiers thus far. Makenzie Wheat and Aliyah Gustafson rank as the top two shot putters in the league and are among the top 20 in the entire East region. The Falcons have also carried over their successful jumping season from indoors and the team has five of the top 19 MAC competitors in both the long jump and the triple jump.
