BGSU Volleyball Takes Off for 10-Day European Tour

Falcons' European Tour Itinerary (PDF)

Bowling Green, Ohio – Today, Saturday, May 14, the Bowling Green State University volleyball team began a European Tour that will take the Falcons to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Italy for a total of 10 days, May 15-24, sandwiched in between two full travel days on May 14 and May 25.

"Foreign tours have become popular over the last few years in intercollegiate athletes and we are so excited to get the chance to take one this spring with our team," stated head coach Danijela Tomic. "Thanks to the support and contributions of our great donors, supporters and fans, this once in a lifetime trip to Europe is possible for our student-athletes."

On the 10-day tour, the Falcons will get to experience firsthand other cultures and people from halfway across the world. On top of that, BGSU's Coach Tomic, Jelena Sunjic and Isabel Kovacic will all get a chance to introduce their Falcon family to their respective families, as Coach Tomic is from Bosnia and Herzegovina, while both Sunjic and Kovacic hail from Croatia.

BGSU will get to visit a number of beautiful and historic cities on its tour, including Sarajevo, Kraljeva Suteska and Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina; Metkovic, Split, Zadar, Pag, Rovinj and Porec in Croatia; and Venice, Verona and Milan in Italy.

In addition to the educational, cultural and sightseeing experiences, the Falcons will also play a total of five matches over the 10-day span. BGSU will play one match in Bosnia on May 16 versus Ok Novi Grad before playing four matches in Croatia against Marina Kastela (May 19), Croatia Junior National Team (May 20), Zok Roving (May 21) and Zok Porec (May 22).

"Our team is looking forward to experiencing other countries and their cultures on our European Tour, which works directly with our University's mission - to provide educational experiences inside and outside the classroom that enhance the lives of students, faculty and staff, as well as to produce students that are prepared for lifelong career growth, lives of engaged citizenship and leadership in a global society," continued Coach Tomic.
