2016-17 MAC Women's Basketball Schedule Announced
September 06, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Falcons' league slate begins with a New Year's Eve matchup with defending regular-season champion
The Mid-American Conference office has announced the conference women's basketball schedule for the 2016-17 season, and the Bowling Green State University Falcons will play a challenging 18-game league schedule again this winter. That conference slate includes a three-game homestand at the Stroh Center in mid-January..

The '16-17 schedule also includes three Saturdays in which both the BGSU men's and women's basketball teams will be at home. Those weekend doubleheader dates at the Stroh Center feature two Saturdays in January (Jan. 14 and Jan. 21) and one in February (Feb. 4).
As in recent years, BGSU will play two games against each of the other MAC East Division foes -- Akron, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami and Ohio -- and the Falcons will meet two West Division opponents two times apiece. In 2016-17, those cross-divisional schools are Ball State and Western Michigan, as the Orange and Brown will face both the Cardinals and the Broncos at home and away. BG plays single games vs. Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo and Northern Illinois.
The conference schedule begins with a New Year's Eve home game, as the Falcons face defending MAC regular-season champion Ohio at the Stroh on Saturday, Dec. 31. This season marks the first time BG's MAC schedule has started in December since the 1998-99 campaign.
The Falcons then host Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Jan. 4, in the teams' lone regular-season matchup. BG hits the road to face both Akron (Jan. 7) and WMU (Jan. 11), before returning to the Stroh Center for the next three contests. Central Michigan (Jan. 14), Buffalo (Jan. 18) and Ball State (Jan. 21) all will venture to the Stroh during that eight-day stretch. UB is the defending MAC Tournament champion, and the Bulls downed CMU at the buzzer in the league tourney title game.
The BGSU-CMU game will be played on the same date that the Falcon men's basketball team hosts the NIU men, while the following Saturday sees both the Ball State men's and women's teams take on the Falcons at the Stroh.
Following that BSU matchup, the women's basketball Falcons will travel to face Eastern Michigan (Jan. 25) and Kent State (Jan. 28), ending the month of January as well as the first half of the MAC schedule.
February begins with a home date against Akron on Saturday, Feb. 4, a day which also sees the Toledo men venture south to meet the BG men's hoopsters. BG heads to Ball State for a Feb. 8 matchup, and the Falcons then head to the Glass City to face UT in The Battle of I-75 on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Western Michigan comes to the Stroh on Wednesday, Feb. 15, before the Falcons head to Oxford for the first of two meetings against Miami in a two-week span. BG will face the RedHawks on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Kent State visits Northwest Ohio four days later (Feb. 22), before the Falcons travel to Buffalo for a Feb. 25 date with the Bulls. March begins with a matchup against Ohio in Athens (March 1), and Miami comes to the Stroh Center to close the regular season on Saturday, March 4. The MU game will be Senior Day for the Orange and Brown, with the Falcons' seniors recognized in ceremonies prior to tipoff against the RedHawks.
The MAC schedule comes after a non-conference slate that sees the Falcons play six games -- the highest total in four years -- at the Stroh Center prior to opening league play. The non-league schedule was announced just over a month ago.
Roos and her staff -- assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Heidi Schlegel -- welcome back eight letterwinners, all of whom gained valuable on-court experience last season. That group includes a trio of seniors in Rachel Konieczki, Abby Siefker and Ashley Tunstall. The junior class includes Rachel Myers and Haley Puk, while Maddie Cole, Sydney Lambert and Carly Santoro comprise the sophomore class.
The eight active returnees are joined by four newcomers, freshmen Andrea Cecil, Clare Glowniak, Rion Thompson and Jane Uecker. The entire team got a jump-start on the 2016-17 season with a trip to Cuba in mid-August, as the Falcons were able to practice prior to the trip, then play three games while on the foreign tour.
Women's basketball season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the BGSU Ticket Office at 877-BGSU-TICKET or by visiting the Falcon Ticket Zone at BGSUFalcons.com.
