Deja Wimby led the Broncos with 20 points, while Breanna Mobley added 19. Marley Hill rounded out the home team's double-digit scorers with 15 points.
Mobley was 9-of-10 from the field on the night, while Wimby dished out 10 assists.
The Falcons' bench outscored their WMU counterparts, 34-9, on Wednesday. In addition to Cecil's 13-point output, junior Rachel Myers and senior Rachel Konieczki came off the bench to score eight and six points, respectively.
Sophomore Sydney Lambert scored six points, while three other Falcons had five. Lambert and Cecil each hit two three-point field goals as the Falcons went 7-for-25 from beyond the arc.
"Mobley and Hill, their two post players, are the real deal," said BGSU head coach Jennifer Roos. "They combined to go 16-of-22. They do a great job of getting positioning , and they got some good post-ups. Much of that was due to Deja Wimby's play at the point. She really pushed the ball and put us on our heels.
"We did a great job of taking away Meredith Shipman, who I thought might be an X-factor for them, and we outscored them at the arc. But, at the end of the day they were able to go two-by-two-by-two, and we weren't able to get consecutive stops and consecutive makes to cut into their lead."
A Lambert triple on BG's first possession of the night gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead, but Mobley's second bucket of the game gave the Broncos the lead at the 8:49 mark. That layup also began a 10-0 run for the hosts, capped by another Mobley hoop that made it a 12-3 game.
Senior Abby Siefker stopped that run with a nifty drive and shot off glass, but Hill's layup was followed by a Najee Smith corner three, and the hosts had an 18-5 lead.
The Broncos were a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in the game's first 5:01, but Western would go 0-for-7 from the floor over the final 4:59 of the period.
Three-pointers by Lambert and Cecil cut the WMU lead to eight points, with Siefker feeding Cecil for a straightaway trey that made the score 19-11 with 2:40 left in the quarter. The Falcons held the Broncos scoreless over the final 3:01 of the period, but BG could not cut into the lead any further, and the score remained 19-11 heading to the second period.
"That was a key point of the game," said Roos. "After we cut it to 19-11, we had the ball for four more possessions in the first quarter, and went two and a half minutes without cutting into their lead. We held them without a point during that stretch, but if we hit a couple shots during that stretch, it's a much closer game heading into the second quarter."
The Broncos scored the first six points of that second quarter, with Hill's layup giving the hosts a 25-11 lead. Junior Haley Puk converted a nifty driving layup, then came off of a screen to receive a Lambert pass and drain a rainbow three, but Western answered with back-to-back buckets for a 31-16 lead.
Senior Ashley Tunstall scored inside, and Myers hit a pull-up banker from the right side, but after the Falcons got within 12 points, Wimby's layup began a 6-0 run for the Broncos. Hill's bucket in the final minute of the half gave her team a 39-21 lead before Cecil's second successful triple in as many tries cut BG's deficit to 15 at the half.
But, BG could get no closer. The Broncos extended the lead in the third quarter, shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in that period, to put the game away.
For the game, the Broncos shot 49.2% from the floor. BGSU hit seven triples to Western's three, but the hosts held the Falcons to 34.5% overall shooting on the night.
The Broncos also held a 40-34 rebounding advantage, becoming only the third team to pull down more rebounds than the Falcons this season.
BGSU now returns home for the next three games, beginning with a Saturday (Jan. 14) contest against Central Michigan University. That game, the second half of a Falcon hoops doubleheader at the Stroh Center, is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
