Falcons Rally To Down IUPUI, 4-3

Perrysburg, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University tennis team earned a 4-3 win over the IUPUI Jaguars Friday afternoon, picking up the team's first victory of the 2017 season and giving head coach Stephanie Dalmacio her first win as head coach of the Falcons.
 "We are so happy to pull the win at home today," Dalmacio said. "Once again, everyone played their hearts out and knew that every court was important. I'm extremely proud of these girls for believing it was possible. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us!"
In doubles, sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash were first off the courts at No. 1 as they picked up a 6-2 win over IUPUI's Valeriia Lavrenchuk and Samantha Mayer.
Sophomore Polina Radeva and freshman Ayumi Sasaki lead for a majority of the doubles play on court two, but the Jaguars Sara Sherif and Mariella Pessina rallied midway through to capture the match, 6-3.
The Falcons' four singles wins all came in straight sets. Capturing wins for the Orange and Brown were junior Emily Witt, Comella, Radeva and Sasaki.
Comella got the ball rolling for Bowling Green in singles action at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Lavrenchuk.
Sasaki tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mayer. Witt continued the momentum for BG, giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead after defeating Marina Schneiger, 6-1, 6-4.
The Orange and Brown clinched the match with Radeva's 6-4, 7-5 victory against Pessina on court four.
After dropping the first set 7-5, Tavpash made a second set comeback 6-2 over Sherif, but ultimately fell 10-6 in the tiebreaker. Â
The Falcons return to the road Saturday, Feb. 4 heading to East Lansing, Mich. to face the Michigan State Spartans. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
