Cross Country Has Another Record Setting Day In Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It was another solid weekend from Bowling Green State University's men's and women's cross country teams as they competed at the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville. As a preview of what the NCAA D-I Cross Country Championships will look like, the Falcons saw great success with many personal bests set along with a new school record. For the second meet in a row, redshirt junior Rachel Walny set a BGSU record time of 20:25 in the 6K.
The Field
The women raced first for the Falcons, in the seeded 6K race. They competed against 42 other schools, of which nine were nationally ranked including numbers one and two in the country, Colorado and Oregon. The men's event saw 215 finishers from 24 total teams. Six of the Falcons men finished in the top 100.

Record Setters
In total, 13 Falcons saw career best performances today (Saturday, Oct. 14) at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, including eight who shaved one minute or more off their previous bests.
Quoting The Coach
"We did a good job collectively," assistant coach Juan Carrillo said. "This race is definitely a good confidence boost going into the MAC Championships in two weeks."
"We'll be ready when it matters and today they showed they will be," he added.
Up Next
The Falcons will take a two-week hiatus before returning to competition for the Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The Field
The women raced first for the Falcons, in the seeded 6K race. Women's 6K Event
- Placing 29th overall, Walny finished in 20:25 to set a new school record.
- Freshman Jessi Lindstrom finished second for the Falcons, crossing the finish in 22:01.4.
- Senior Elena Lancioni finished shortly behind, with a time of 22:07.4, shaving nearly 50 seconds off her personal best.
- Rachel Durbin finished the race in 22:36.4, good for a new best.
- Kelsie Mothersead, Sarah Hunsley and Allison Holahan rounded out the the event for the Falcons.
Men's 8K Event
- Noah Schaub crossed the line first for the Falcons, finishing 10th overall with a time of 24:17.4, over a minute faster than his previous best.
- Junior Jonathan Wenning also placed in the top 50, finishing 46th overall in 25:14.2, also shaving a minute off his PR.
- Tyler Phillips finished third amongst Falcons, placing 61st with a new best time of 25:23.8.
- Senior Jacob Schenten finished shortly behind, crossing the line at 25:25.6.
- Kohl Taberner and Nick Voth had just one finisher separating them, finishing 98 and 100 overall respectively.
- Jonathan Voth set a new personal best time of 26:01.
- Just 1.5 seconds separated the final three Falcons with Raymond Berling, Paul Garbarino and Gabe Garbarino finishing 121st, 123rd and 125th overall.
Record Setters
In total, 13 Falcons saw career best performances today (Saturday, Oct. 14) at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, including eight who shaved one minute or more off their previous bests.
- Durbin and Mothersead both clocked over one minute off their career best times in the 6K.
- Six men shattered their previous best times by over a minute including Schaub, Wenning, Phillips, Schenten, Taberner, J. Voth, Berling, P. Garbarino and G. Garbarino.
- Taberner had a stellar day, shaving a team high 1:20.6 off his previous 8K record time.
- Lancioni and Walny both shaved just under one minute off their personal bests.
