Madry In Contention At The Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio – All nine members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team competed in the first round of the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Monday (Oct. 16). Bowling Green's top flight carded an 18-hole 304 to sit in fifth place of 14 teams. The tournament, which is being staged at the NCR Country Club, is being hosted by the University of Dayton.
Findlay currently leads the field with a team score of 293, followed closely by IUPUI (297) and Western Illinois (298). Bowling Green's team of four individuals posted a 326.
Jessica Madry registered a career-low 72, and out of a total of 90 competitors, she sits tied for second, just two strokes off the lead. Madry is tied with seven other golfers for second place, while sitting a couple strokes behind Western Illinois' Bridget Connolly (70).
COACH COMMENTS
"We had a few too many big numbers, three puts and missed fairways that cost us from realizing our team goals for today. We look to come out stronger tomorrow, and finish the fall season on a high note."

* Competing in the third tournament of her season, Madry posted a career-low 72, bettering her previous career low by two strokes.
* Sarah Kern posted a season-low 76, which is the second best round of her career. She carded a 74 in the third round of the 2016 Cardinal Classic.
* Nichole Cox has been a model for consistency. After shooting an 80 in the first round of the season opener at the Redbird Invitational, she's carded 15 consecutive rounds below 79.

* Dani Austinson made her collegiate debut today, while senior Miranda Dubler made her senior year debut.
* Austinson and Dubler each carded an 85 in the opening round.
TEAM TIDBITS
* For the first time this season, all nine players on the team saw action.
* The event is the first 36-hole tournament that the Falcons are participating in this season. BGSU's first five tournaments of the 2017-18 season were all three-round, 54-hole tournaments.
* Bowling Green is currently one stroke ahead of Central Michigan. If that result holds, Bowling Green would finish its fall slate with 13-10-0 mark versus Mid-American Conference competition.
* Bowling Green is on track to finish higher than it did in the 2016-17 Dayton Flyer Invitational. Last season, BGSU shot a 635 to finish sixth.
