Falcons Close Fall By Placing Third At Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team concluded its fall schedule on Tuesday (Oct. 17) by finishing third of 15 teams at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. Bowling Green carded 18-hole rounds of 304 and 300 to finish the tournament with a team score of 604.

The Falcons leapfrogged two spots on the final day, moving from fifth to third across the final 18 holes. Bowling Green's additional flight of four individuals scored a 652, finishing ahead of multiple schools. Findlay won the tournament with a 595, while Western Illinois finished in second with a 596.

Individually, the Falcons were led by Erin Fahey and Julia Durkin. Both Falcons posted a 151 to finish tied for 16th. Sarah Kern, Jessica Madry and Sammi Blackburn each finished inside the top 30. A total of 90 players competed in the tournament.

"We are proud of the team's improvement today, and proud about moving up the leaderboard," said head coach Stephanie Young. "Overall, it's been a very exciting and successful fall season. The team will get some rest and then move into preparation towards the spring season. February competition will be here soon!"

* After a first-round 81, Erin Fahey closed her fall season with a bang, tying her career low by shooting a 70. Her 70, along with being the low round for the day, is tied for the fourth best 18-hole score in program history.
* Julia Durkin capped off a fantastic fall campaign by shooting a round-two 74. The 74 is the third-best score of her career. Durkin entered this season with an 18-hole career low of 77. She posted nine rounds this fall of 77 or lower.
* Heading into the week, Sarah Kern's season low was a 77. She registered a 76 in each round to finish the tournament tied for 21st place.
* Jessica Madry, who shot a career-low 72 yesterday, posted a 36-hole low of 154, bettering her previous 36-hole low by two strokes.
* Sammi Blackburn carded a round-two 76, which is tied for her second-best round as a Falcon. Blackburn's top three 18-hole scores were recorded in the final three weeks of the fall schedule. She posted a 76 two weeks ago at the KZoo Classic, before scoring a 73 at last week's Shirley Spoke EMU Invitational.
* Nichole Cox finished the fall season by shooting a 79 or lower in 16 of 18 rounds. She also added a pair of top-five finishes.
* Madelynn Swank, after carding a 165 at last year's Dayton Flyer Invitational, posted a 79 in round two to finish the tournament with a 159.
* Dani Austinson made her collegiate debut during the tournament, and showed improvement, as she shaved two strokes off her first-round score by carding an 83 today.
* Miranda Dubler earned the first appearance of her senior season this week, and carded a 173 for the tournament.

* The Falcons posted two additional top five 36-hole scores this fall, as BGSU registered a 600 through the first two rounds at the Shirley Spoke Invitational, while notching a 601 after the first two rounds of the KZoo Classic.
* At this year's Dayton Flyer Invitational, Bowling Green shot a 604 and finished in third place. At last year's Dayton Flyer Invitational, the Falcons shot a 635 and finished in sixth place.
