Additionally, Xavier and Tiffin will stage a dual competition between their swimming and diving teams.
BGSUÂ began the regular season on Friday, Sept. 29 with a dominating 214.5-77.5 dual meet victory over St. Francis University. The Falcons won 14 of the 16 events on that afternoon. it was the second-highest scoring total for the Falcons under head coach Matt Ense; the team scored 223 on Feb. 5, 2016 against Youngstown State. Six freshmen won events for the Falcons, including two individual wins each for Jordan Andrusak and Sarah Hennings. Maddy Andrews won an individual race and competed on a winning relay team, and Ashleigh Franks swam on two winning relays.
This will be the Falcons' first dual meet competition against Tiffin. Bowling Green has faced Xavier twice in the last four years. BGSU won at Xavier in 2013, 171-89. They repeated the feat last year, 141-111.
SCOUTING XAVIER
The Musketeers finished fourth at the 2017 Big East Championships and return their lone gold medalist from that event, Caroline Gaertner (100 butterfly). Xavier set nine school records at the event, four individual and five relays. Thus far in 2017, Xavier has been very successful. In a multi-team meet at Butler to open the season, Xavier went 5-0 against Butler, Indiana State, Saint Louis, Evansville, and Valparaiso. In their next competition, Xavier fell to Indiana State but defeated Olivet Nazarene, the defending NAIA national champions. Most recently, Xavier won 161-97 over Cleveland State and finished first in ten of the 14 events, including both relays. Gaertner won the 100 butterfly, while Emma Kauffeld, Paxtyn Drew, and Emily Conners each won two individual events.
SCOUTING TIFFIN
The Dragons are led by third-year coach Noah Moran. Moran is very familiar with the Mid-American Conference, as he graduated from Eastern Michigan University and served as an assistant coach for the Eagles for seven seasons. During his time there, Moran helped the Eagles compile a 32-13 record and a 21-3 mark in league contests. At Tiffin in 2016-17, he led Tiffin to a seventh-place finish at the 2017 GLIAC Championships. Tiffin has competed in one meet thus far this season, earning a 211-29 loss to Gannon.
COACH SAYS...
"It will be great to get back to racing and competition after having a three week break since our last time in the pool," said BGSUÂ head coach Matt Ense. "Xavier will be coming to town with a very talented young team. From the results they have posted early on this season, the meet on Saturday will be a very tough test for our women this early in the season. The last three weeks of workouts have been tough and challenging for the divers and swimmers, so it will be fun to see the hard work in action on Saturday."
