BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team put together another dominant effort in front of a friendly crowd at Cooper Pool and improved to 3-0 in dual meets this season. The Falcons defeated Tiffin 254-18 and Xavier 166-128 in a double dual held on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21). The home team captured the victory in nine of the 16 events and finished second in five of the other seven. No event finished without a Falcon placing in the top three.
COACH SAYS...
"After having a 3 week break from competition, the team came out early with a great 200 Medley Relay. In the next few events, we were able to get our hand to the wall first, but the race plans were a little rusty from the time off. After we were able to get a lead on Xavier, they gave us a run for our money, and it was a great meet for our women to finish out on top," said BGSU head coach Matt Ense. "Talisa Lemke was impressive on the boards once again earning NCAA Zone cuts on both boards, and newcomer Nicole Borgerding was part of 3 winning races. We have a tough week of work ahead of us before we face a very talented Eastern Michigan team next weekend."
NOTE OF THE DAY
Nikki Borgerding put together the best day for the Falcons, as she won two individual races, took part in a winning relay effort, and improved two of her individual times from the season-opening meet. In the 100 breaststroke, she beat teammate Rebecca Duncan by more than two seconds and set a new personal-best (1:05.19) to earn victory. She followed that by earning a breaststroke sweep with a win in the 200. In that race, her time (2:23.85) defeated Xavier's Delaney Sprague by nearly four seconds. Borgerding also swam and finished fourth in the 200 individual medley with a new best time of 2:15.18. She led off the meet by swimming second on the winning 200 medley relay team, which finished in 1:46.94.
DIVING DOMINANCE
The Falcons did not face any competition in the three-meter diving and only one opposing diver in the one-meter, and Talisa Lemke won both events. Despite the primary opponents being one another, the Falcons found steady improvement in both events. Lemke's scores of 282.75 in the one-meter and 307.50 in the three-meter improved upon those against St. Francis. Claire Stam did the same, posting season-best scores of 254.62 (one-meter) and 267.45 (three-meter). In addition, Emily Kellerman set a new personal record on the three-meter board, earning a 225.37 for her dives.
