Falcons Fall To Northern Illinois Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University football team dropped a 48-17 decision to Northern Illinois University on Saturday (Oct. 21) afternoon at Doyt L. Perry Stadium. The Falcons trailed by a score of 14-7 after the first quarter, but the Huskies pulled away from there to secure the victory.
Bowling Green falls to 1-7 and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference with the loss, while Northern Illinois improves to 5-2 (3-0 MAC) with the victory. The Huskies took advantage of a 17-0 second quarter to take a 31-7 halftime lead.
Bowling Green has next weekend off, and will next play at Kent State on Oct. 31 in the first midweek #MACtion contest of the season. The ballgame from Dix Stadium is slated for an 8 p.m. kickoff.
OFFENSE
* True freshman running back Andrew Clair rushed for 108 yards on 15 carries. Clair has rushed for 100-plus yards in three-consecutive games.
* Grant Loy and James Morgan split snaps at quarterback. Morgan completed 7-of-12 passes, while Loy connected on 6-of-11 passes for 104 yards.
* Loy also rushed for 29 yards on 11 carries, and scored his first-career touchdown on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
* Janarvis Pough caught a team-best four passes for 20 yards, while Datrin Guyton had a team-high 51 yards on two receptions.
* Quintin Morris caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, which marked the first touchdown of his Falcon career.
* Scott Miller aided the offense with three catches for 49 yards.
DEFENSE
* Nate Locke, Fred Garth and Brandon Harris led the Bowling Green defense with 10 tackles apiece.
* Locke also added a sack, two tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.
* Aaron Banks chipped in with nine tackles.
* Marcus Milton registered seven tackles and a tackle for loss.
* David Konowalski posted five tackles. He had a stripe sack, two tackles for loss, and an additional forced fumble.
* Kyle Junior recovered the David Konowalski strip sack, and returned it 38 yards down the Bowling Green sideline.
* Montre Gregory had two pass breakups, while Torrian Hampton and Clint Stephens notched a pass breakup apiece.
SPECIAL TEAMS
* Joe Davidson had three punts for 128 yards, for an average of 42.7 yards.
* Davidson had one punt downed at the NIU one yard line, and another punt downed at the Huskie five.
* Nick Fields had three of his four kickoffs go for touchbacks.
* Jake Suder made both extra point attempts, while also nailing a 34-yard field goal.
