CENTURY MARK AT THE STROH
Monday night's game will be the 100th women's college basketball game played at the Stroh Center. The Falcons enter the contest with a 60-36 record in games since the building opened prior to the 2011-12 season. BG is 31-13 in non-conference matchups at the Stroh entering the Ferris State game.
There have been three women's college basketball games played at the Stroh that did not involve BGSU. In March of 2012, top-ranked Baylor beat both UC Santa Barbara and Florida (after Florida had topped Ohio State) as the building hosted the NCAA Championships First and Second Rounds. The Bears went on to win the national championship, finishing the season with a 40-0 record.
LAST TIME OUT: JACKRABBITS SNAP BGSU'S FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK
Macy Miller scored 10 of her game-high 22 points in the second quarter, leading host South Dakota State to a 76-44 win over the Falcons at Frost Arena (Dec. 9).
With the win, the Jackrabbits improved to 8-2 on the season. SDSU entered the game receiving votes in both national top-25 polls, and the Jacks are currently ranked second in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll.
The Falcons saw a four-game winning streak snapped. BG lost for just the second time in nine games this season, and the first time in five games away from home.
Miller had a game-high nine rebounds to go along with her 22 points, while Madison Guebert joined her in double figures with 11 points on the evening.
For the Falcons, 12 different players scored, but none scored more than seven points. Sophomore Andrea Cecil had seven points and junior Maddie Cole six. Cole led the Falcons with three field goals made, going 3-for-4 from the floor.
BGSU was held to season-low totals in multiple categories, including points, field goals made (16) and rebounds (30).
ABOUT THE FALCONS
BGSU is off to a 7-2 start to the season. The Falcons picked up wins over Eastern Kentucky, Detroit and Robert Morris, with the latter two victories coming in front of loud School Day crowds on the road, to begin the year. The Brown and Orange suffered a loss to Canisius at the Stroh Center, but bounced back with wins over Norfolk State and FAU to win the latter school's Thanksgiving tournament.
BG then topped Valparaiso to complete a season-opening stretch of seven games in a 19-day span, before downing Xavier before a large School Day crowd at the Stroh. The Falcons fell to RV/RV South Dakota State before taking a break for fall semester exams.
Head coach Jennifer Roos and her staff – which is comprised of assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Amanda Cutcher – welcomed back a total of nine returning players, including three starters, from a year ago. The list of returnees includes two seniors, three juniors and four second-year Falcons.
Rachel Myers and Haley Puk make up the senior class, while Maddie Cole, Sydney Lambert and Carly Santoro enter their junior year. Sophomores Andrea Cecil, Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker also return, as does Clare Glowniak, who is a redshirt freshman in terms of eligibility after missing the bulk of last season due to injury.
The nine returnees are joined by five freshmen, including Terri Battle, Madisen Parker, Angela Perry, Sierra Thompson and Kennedy Williams. The frosh combined for 34 points in the Falcons' exhibition win over Seton Hill.
BGSU's starters in all nine games to date have been Cecil, Lambert, Puk, Santoro and Uecker. The two sophomores, Cecil and Uecker, each made the first start of their respective collegiate careers in the season opener.
Santoro was named to the Preseason All-MAC Team. She led the Falcons in scoring a year ago, averaging 12.0 points per game. Santoro is the Falcons' top returning rebounder as well, having pulled down 7.4 boards per contest last winter.
This year, through nine games, four Falcons are scoring in double digits. Santoro leads the way with 15.1 ppg, and is averaging a double-double, with a team-leading 10.7 rpg. Cecil (10.6 ppg), Lambert (10.3) and Puk (10.0) also are averaging over 10 points per outing, while Uecker (5.9) and Sierra Thompson (5.6) each average over five ppg.
Lambert leads the Falcons in both assists (2.7 apg) and steals (2.0 spg), while Santoro is second in both categories, with 2.1 apg and 1.7 spg. Lambert and Puk each have knocked down a team-leading 17 three-point field goals this year.
BGSU has a +2.2 scoring margin, a +0.8 rebounding margin and a +2.6 turnover margin through nine games this season.
START ME UP. IF YOU START ME UP I'LL NEVER STOP.
The Falcons are off to a 7-2 start to the season. The 2017-18 campaign marks the 16th time in program history that BG has won at least seven of the first nine games.
Nine of those 16 seasons have come since Jennifer Roos arrived at BGSU, with three coming since she assumed the head-coaching job.
Five BGSU teams – the 1974-75, 1991-92, 2005-06, 2010-11 and 2013-14 BGSU teams – have been 8-1 after nine games, while this year is the 11th time a Falcon squad has been 7-2 at this juncture.
#WINNING
The Falcons ended the November portion of the schedule with a 6-1 record. The last BG team to win as many as six games in November was the 2013-14 club, which also ended the month with a 6-1 mark.
The last time a Falcon team won as many as six games in any month of the year was also that '13-14 squad, which went 6-2 in March of 2014, en route to the fourth round of the WNIT.
In fact, that 2013-14 team won six or more games in every month but one, and in that month (December), the Falcons only played five games. Just because you're dying to know, the '13-14 team went 6-1 in November, 4-1 in December, 7-1 in January, a perfect 7-0 in February and 6-2 in March.
The Falcons now have seven wins on the year, after defeating Xavier on Dec. 6. Last year, BGSU's seventh win of the season came on February 18.
ROAD WARRIORS IN NOVEMBER
Last season, the Falcons won a total of five games away from home. This year, BG captured four games in hostile (three) or lukewarm (one) venues during November alone. The Falcons are currently 4-1 in all games played away from the Stroh Center.

'STROH'ME COURT ADVANTAGE
The Falcons' win over Xavier gave BGSU a 3-1 record at the Stroh Center this season to date. With that victory, on Dec. 6, the Brown and Orange matched the home win total for all of last year.

DOUBLE(-DOUBLE) TROUBLE
Junior Carly Santoro has recorded six double-doubles in nine games this season. She posted three-straight double-doubles to begin the year, and then put together another three-game streak, with a double-double in each of BGSU's two wins at the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament and another vs. Valparaiso
Santoro led the Falcons with five double-doubles a year ago, and – obviously – has topped that total less than one-third of the way through the 2017-18 season.Â
The last Falcon to have more than six double-doubles in a season was Deborah Hoekstra, who had seven in the 2014-15 campaign.
Interestingly (depending upon your level of interest), the Falcons are 6-0 this season when Santoro records a double-double. BGSU went just 1-4 in such games last season.
#CanScoreO
Junior Carly Santoro was named the MAC Player of the Week on Dec. 5, marking the second time she has captured that award this season. She also was named the College Sports Madness league P-O-W for the second time.
The awards came after Santoro continued her stellar start to the season with a 29-point, 13-rebound effort in BG's lone game the prior week, a 90-77 win over Valparaiso. Santoro, who also had a career-high six assists in the win, went 8-of-11 from the floor and 13-of-16 from the free-throw line.
#CanReboundO
As of Saturday morning (Dec. 16), junior Carly Santoro is tied for 21st in the country in rebounding, with 10.7 boards per game. She is currently ranked third in the nation in that category among players under 6-0.
SAN-TORRID
Also as of Saturday morning (Dec. 16), Carly Santoro was tied for 13th in the nation in double-doubles, with six. Of the players ranked ahead of her on that list, only one had played in fewer games that Santoro's nine.
ANY MORE SANTORO-RELATED NOTES?
Yes. Last season, Carly Santoro led the Falcons in both free throws made and attempted, as she went 69-of-96 from the line. Through just nine games this season, she already has taken 64 shots from the stripe, making 42. Santoro has shot 12 or more free throws in a game three times this year, and is shooting nearly 75% (20-of-27) over the last four games.
THREE-MARKABLE
Through the years, BGSU rosters typically have been stocked with players who can score from three-point range. No fewer than 12 different players made at least one three-point field goal two years ago, and all 12 Falcons who saw action last year knocked down at least one trey. This year, a total of nine different players had made one or more long-distance shots by the season's sixth game.
THREE-LIGHTFUL
Two years ago, the Falcons made at least five three-point field goals in 24 of 28 games, and BG hit at least four triples in all 28 contests. Last year, BGSU connected at least four times in 27 of the 31 games, and this year, the Falcons have made four or more treys in eight of the nine games.
THREE-GION OF BOOM
In fact, BG has knocked down four or more three-pointers in 95 of the last 101 games, dating to late in the 2013-14 season.
THREE- ... UMMM, SOME OTHER PHRASE THAT STARTS WITH 'THREE'
BGSU will be looking to extend a mucho-impressive streak in the Ferris State game. The Falcons have hit at least one three-pointer in each of the last 409 games. BG has not been held without a triple in over 12 years – since Feb. 12, 2005, at Akron, when the Falcons won, 61-52, despite going 0-of-13 from long distance.
HOLDING ON TO THE BALL
The Falcons lead the MAC and are ranked 24th in the nation in fewest turnovers per game, at 12.9. Last season, BG finished 11th in the conference and 221st in the country in that category.
BG currently has a turnover margin of +2.6, after finishing the 2016-17 campaign with a turnover margin of -2.8.
SCOUTING FERRIS STATE
Ferris State is 7-4 on the season, and the Bulldogs have topped the win total for all of last season. FSU snapped a three-game losing streak with a 78-67 win at Lake Superior State on Saturday afternoon. Rachel McInerney paces four double-figure scorers with 16.7 points per game, and she also has team-leading averages of 8.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per outing. Head coach Kendra Faustin's team is averaging 83.2 points per game this season to date.
THE SERIES
The Falcons and Ferris State have never met in a regular-season game. Last year, the teams met in an exhibition game at the Stroh Center (Nov. 5, 2016), with the Orange and Brown picking up a 100-50 win.
UP NEXT
Following the FSU game, the Falcons will travel to the Queen City to face the University of Cincinnati on Thursday (Dec. 21). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at St. Ursula Academy Gymnasium & Convocation Center. UC is playing most of the 2017-18 home schedule at that venue due to a renovation of the team's on-campus home, Fifth Third Arena.
The UC game completes the Falcons' non-league schedule. The Mid-American Conference opener is on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Western Michigan, and the Falcons' first home league game is on Wednesday, Jan. 3, vs. Eastern Michigan.
