Lauren Feely Wins All-Around, Falcons Drop Finale to EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Bowling Green State University senior Lauren Feely won the all-around competition in the final dual meet of her career, as the gymnastics team closed the 2017 regular season with a 195.225-194.675 loss at Eastern Michigan. Feely's all-around score (39.150) was a season-best. She will now focus on defending her Mid-American Conference all-around championship next weekend.

Feely's top performance occurred on the vault, and she led a lineup that topped EMU in that event. Her outstanding leap was awarded a 9.900. It is Feely's third score of 9.900 or above on the vault in 2017.
She also significantly helped her chances of a trip to the NCAA Regionals by improving her Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) from 9.850 to 9.865.

Freshman Jovannah East anchored the vault lineup and added a 9.900 performance of her own. East created a new personal record in the process. She also improved her own regional hopes by increasing her RQS from 9.865 to 9.870. East and Feely tied for first; it was East's 12th first-place finish of 2017, eight of which have been on vault. Feely ha four top finishes, all on vault.

The Falcons' vault lineup totaled 48.825 to best EMU's effort (48.750) on the apparatus.

BGSU continued its season-long improvement with the floor exercise by earning a season-high 49.050 with the six-deep lineup. Kayla Rose led the group and tied for second overall with a 9.850. Rose now has a 9.850 or better in four consecutive meets. Feely added her best floor routine of the season and placed fourth with a 9.825. Victoria Heath and Laura Mitchell contributed a pair of 9.800 scores, while Randi Morris rounded out the group with her best road routine of the season (9.775).

On the balance beam, all six of Bowling Green's gymnasts scored at least a 9.700, as the team secured its third-highest beam score of the season (48.925). That score easily bettered EMU's 48.275. Feely, Mitchell and Alex Johnston each received a 9.800 and tied for second place. Feely tied her season-best with that mark, while Johnston's tied her career high.

The Falcons also improved on the uneven bars. The lineup raised its total score to 47.875 this week. Mitchell and Rachel Reis earned top-five finishes with scores of 9.800 and 9.775, respectively.

"The team put in a solid effort tonight. Bars continued to have some struggles, but there were improvements. The heart of this team showed with the effort on vault, floor and beam. They never gave up," said BGSU head coach Kerrie Turner. "We will learn from this and use the experience to prepare for the MAC Championships next weekend."

Bowling Green concludes the regular season with a 3-14 record and a 2-4 mark against MAC opponents. The team's cumulative total of 194.675 increases their RQS to 194.495, which currently places the Falcons in 46th place nationally.

The Falcons now turn their attention to the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships. BGSU hosts the championship meet at the Stroh Center at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 18. The event will be broadcast live by BCSN and streamed live on ESPN3.
