BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green women's golf program will continue the spring season by competing in the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout in Dallas, Texas from Monday, March 13 through Wednesday, March 15. The par 72, 6,942 Whitworth Course at the Trophy Club will host the 54-hole competition.
The 16-team field includes host-school Oral Roberts University, FDU, Alabama State, Bowling Green, Creighton, Eastern Kentucky, Montana, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Missouri State, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Stephen F. Austin, ULM, and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The tournament will consist of 18-holes per day, with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. each day at holes No. 1 and No. 10. The Falcons are scheduled to pair up with Houston Baptist and Missouri State Monday morning in a 10 a.m. tee off at hole No. 1.
Bowling Green will send out a lineup led by sophomore Erin Fahey, followed by freshman Jessica Madry, junior Madelynn Swank, senior Fran Rodriguez, and rounded out by sophomore Julia Durkin.
Fahey led the Falcons in the fall season, finishing on the top of the Bowling Green lineup in three of the team's five events, clenching as high as a ninth-place finish in the fall campaign. Last week at the Rio Verde Invitational, Fahey topped the Falcons lineup again by finishing in a tie for 25th overall by a score of 226, +10 with a low round of 74.
Second in the lineup will be freshman Madry, competing in her seventh event of the 2016-17 season. Earlier this spring, after earning a win the second round of the Match Play Challenge the Houston, Texas native carried her momentum to the third round of competition and followed up with another point for the Falcons. Last week in Arizona, Madry consistently improved over the course of play, and finished the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 78 in the second and third rounds, for a final score of 238, +22.
In the third spot on the lineup is junior Swank, who appeared in four of the fall's five events, and carded a low round of 76. At the Rio Verde Invitational, Swank opened with a strong score of 78, ultimately carding a 54-hole score of 240, +24. The round of 78 is Swank's lowest score since marking a 76 in the second round of the Cardinal Classic in September.
Appearing in all seven events thus far in the season is senior Rodriguez, who marked a low round of 75 at the KZoo Classic. In the Match Play Challenge, Rodriguez rebounded from a first round loss by marking back-to-back wins in the next two rounds. The Flower Mound, Texas native's point in the third round sealed the Falcons victory over Dayton and helped her go 2-1 through the tournament.
Rounding out the Falcons will be sophomore Durkin, who saw action in two events this fall. Durkin earned a low round of 80 at the Dayton Fall Invitational in October, ultimately leading to a score of 163 and a placing in a tie for 51st overall. Most recently, Durkin competed as an individual at the Silver Lake Shootout, where she tied of 22nd overall with rounds of 86 and 83 for a final score of 169 on the day.
