Velasquez, Iversen Post Career Days At Jesse Owens Classic

Columbus, Ohio – Bowling Green State University's Kayla Velasquez and Elizabeth Iversen each had career days in the hammer throw at the Jesse Owens Classic Friday on day one of the two-day meet. The Falcons competed in three events on the evening.
Velasquez, a senior, threw the hammer 189-feet-9.75 (57.86m) in the championship flight of the hammer throw to place sixth overall. Velasquez threw over 180-feet on each of her six attempts and concluded the meet with her best toss of the day.
In the open division of the hammer throw, Iversen, a junior, placed third overall with a career-best throw of 184-8 (56.29m). She recorded throws of better than 182 feet on each of her final two attempts, the first time in her career she had reached that distance. Freshman Kaila Butler also competed in the hammer throw, placing eighth in the championship flight with a mark of 182-5.25 (55.61m).
In other competition during the day, redshirt junior Rachel Durbin ran the 1500 in 4:43.41 and sophomore Andrea Weirauch threw the javelin 93-2 (28.40m).
Bowling Green will be back in action for day two of the Jesse Owens Classic Saturday, beginning with the shot put at 10:30 am.
