
Falcons Make March Through Midwest For Busy Weekend

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team is competing throughout the Midwest this weekend. The throws group opened the weekend in Iowa at the Kip Janvrin Open, hosted by Simpson College. On both Thursday and Friday, various competitors from all groups competed in Michigan at the Gina Relays, hosted by Hillsdale College. On Friday, the Falcons began competition at the prestigious Drake Relays, with the majority of the competitors on the day taking part in relays.
Results from Thursday and Friday at each meet are summarized below. The Falcons will continue competition at the Drake Relays Saturday.
KIP JANVRIN OPEN
Bowling Green won all three events it entered at the Kip Janvrin Open Thursday, hosted by Simpson College. Aliyah Gustafson earned victories in the discus (150-4 / 45.82m) and the shot put (49-11.25 / 15.22m), while Kaila Butler picked up a win in the hammer throw (182-2 / 55.52m). In fact, the Falcons took the top two spots in the hammer with Kayla Velasquez earning runner-up status (179-9 / 54.78m). Velasquez also set a season-best mark in the discus (144-10 / 44.16m) to place fourth.

DRAKE RELAYS
Bowling Green appeared at the Drake Relays Friday, competing in three relay events and the 100. The 800 relay team found itself among the school's fastest ever as Cortisha Short, Gabrielle Edwards, Chasatea Brown and Taylor Rambo placed fourth in 1:39.07. That is the fifth-fastest time in program history in the event. The 1600 relay team was ninth in 3:48.07, five seconds faster than the team's previous season-fastest. That time was less than a second shy of cracking BGSU's top-10 all-time list.

GINA RELAYS
Brianna Johnson and Raven Porter both starred for the Falcons in two events at the Gina Relays Friday, hosted by Hillsdale College. Johnson posted a new personal best in the 400 with a time of 58.54 seconds, finished fifth overall, and added a season-best time of 25.34 seconds in the 200 to place fourth. Porter had a pair of season-bests in the jumps, posting a second-place result in the high jump at 5-feet-4.25 (1.63m). In the long jump, Porter leapt 18-1 (5.51m) and ended ninth overall.
In other results, Camerone Bryant was runner-up in the 400 hurdles. She set a collegiate personal best time of 1:05.33 in the event. Other top 10 finishers included Paige Geatz in the 400 hurdles (fifth place in 1:06.52) and BeJai Fray (seventh in the 100 hurdles at 15.58 and tied for ninth in the high jump at 5-0.25).
