2017 Volleyball Schedule
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program and head coach Danijela Tomic announced its 2017 schedule on Monday (June 5) morning. Season tickets are on sale now, and additional information can be found below. The fall slate consists of 13 home matches, and for the second-straight season, the Falcons will open up play with two-consecutive home tournaments.
Â
"We are excited to announce our 2017 schedule," said head coach Danijela Tomic. "We have a competitive non-conference slate that will prepare us well for a tough MAC schedule. We are also excited to host two home tournaments again, and play in front of our Falcon fans during the opening two weekends. Moreover, being able to play an exhibition match before our first tournament is a great new change in Division I volleyball."
Â
After a scrimmage on Aug. 19 at Fort Wayne, Bowling Green will begin the 2017 season with the fifth-annual Hampton Inn Invitational at the Stroh Center. The Orange and Brown will take on Illinois-Chicago, Duquesne and Xavier – all of which finished last season with winning records. The invitational will take place on Aug. 25-26.
Â
The following weekend, the Falcons will stay at the Stroh Center for the BGSU/Toledo Invitational over Sept. 1-2. Bowling Green begins play in the BGSU/Toledo Invitational with a match against a national brand in Notre Dame on Sept. 1. Notre Dame and VCU will also play at the Stroh Center on Sept. 1. BGSU concludes the invitational the next day with a match versus Southeastern Louisiana.
Â
The Orange and Brown wrap up non-conference play over the next two weeks with road invitationals. Across Sept. 8-9, BGSU travels to the NKU Invitational to battle Sacramento State, Seattle and host Northern Kentucky. The Falcons defeated NKU in 2016, but the Norse went on to finish the season with an 18-11 record.
Â
The following weekend, at the VCU Invitational, which will take place Sept. 15-16, BGSU will face Virginia Commonwealth, Northwestern and Seton Hall. The Falcons also defeated VCU last season, as the Rams finished the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 19-14.
Â
Bowling Green's MAC opener is slated for Sept. 21 at Miami, with the home conference opener taking place on Sept. 23 versus Northern Illinois. Miami and NIU played in last season's MAC Championship Match.
Â
BGSU's conference schedule is highlighted by a stretch in October in which the Falcons play four-straight home matches against Buffalo (Oct. 6), Akron (Oct. 7), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 13), and Central Michigan (Oct. 14). The Falcons' additional home MAC games will be against Miami (Oct. 26), Ohio (Nov. 3) and Kent State (Senior Day – Nov. 4).
Â
The annual Battle of I-75 will be staged on Oct. 21 at Toledo's Savage Arena. Bowling Green will also play away matches at Kent State (Sept. 29), Ohio (Sept. 30), Ball State (Oct. 20), Western Michigan (Oct. 28), Akron (Nov. 10) and Buffalo (Nov. 11).
