September 14, 2017 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Falcons return to competition as they travel to East Lansing, Mich. to participate in the 2017 Spartan Invite hosted by Michigan State University. BGSU's men's and women's cross country teams last competed at the Spartan Invite in 2015 where, then redshirt freshman, Rachel Walny placed third overall for the Falcons.
The Spartan Invite
The meet will take place Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, with the women kicking off the event in a 6K race slated to start at 11:40 a.m. The men's event will follow, an 8K set to begin at 12:15 p.m. Both races will be held at Forest Akers East Golf Course, located on the south end of campus.
Scouting The Competition
Both fields yield 33 schools competing including runners from Michigan State, Wayne State and Valparaiso. The MAC will be well represented this weekend in East Lansing, Mich. with four teams racing: Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan (men's) and Western Michigan (women's).
What They're Saying
"It's an interesting race dynamic, having 33 teams competing. It's a nice step for us. We'll see bigger, more competitive races down the road, and having the dual a few weeks ago, it's a nice step to get us ready for our big meets down the road," head coach Lou Snelling said. "There's a good mix of schools competing. You have Michigan State, a few conference schools and some non-DI programs that are very, very good. It should be a great meet."
Last Time Out
The Falcons took on the Rockets of Toledo as they hosted the Mel Brodt Invitational earlier this month. The men's team finished first, topping Toledo 25-30, as junior Noah Schaub recorded a personal best time of 15:30.1 in the 5K event. Jonathan Wenning and Tyler Phillips also placed in the top five for the Falcons. Senior Elena Lancioni finished first for the Falcons on the women's side, finishing with the best season opening time of her career.
Regional Rankings
The USTFCCA Week One rankings have been released, placing the Bowling Green women's squad 14th in the Great Lakes Region, fourth among MAC schools.
