September 21, 2017 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Head coach Matt Ense and the Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team have announced the addition of Tricia Grant as diving coach for the 2017-18 season. She arrives at BGSU with several years of experience coaching divers and as one of the most accomplished collegiate divers in Oakland University history.
"Coach Grant brings an extremely strong diving background with her to the Bowling Green program. She has competed at the highest level possible and knows what it takes to get to that level and be successful," said Ense. "She has learned from some of the best coaches in the Midwest, and it is very evident that she has passion for the sport and for the development of the girls in the program. We are looking forward to seeing the diving program reaching new heights this season with Tricia leading the way."
Prior to becoming coach at BGSU, Grant served as diving coach of Oakland Legacy Diving at Oakland University. In that capacity, she coached athletes to compete for USA Diving and obtain college scholarships. She also recruited high-school level athletes for her team. In addition, Grant arranged travel to USA diving competitions for athletes and coaches, and she managed meets held at the Oakland University Aquatic Center.
Grant competed as a student-athlete for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies' women's swimming and diving team from 2011-2015. As a freshman diver, she made an immediate impact by earning all-league honors at the Summit League championships, where she won the three-meter board (292.35) and finished third on the one-meter board.
Her prestige increased as a sophomore, as she earned Summit League Diver of the Year and Diver of the Championships honors. She won the one-meter championship by posting a Summit League-record 301.40 and repeated as three-meter champion (302.20). She broke the Oakland University one-meter record with a 310.70 at the EMU Swim and Dive Invitational and finished in the top 15 of both events at the 2013 NCAA Diving Zones.
Prior to her junior season, Oakland moved to the Horizon League, and Grant continued her championship ways in that league. In 2014, she became the first diver in Horizon League history to the NCAA Championships, where she finished 25th (three-meter) and 31st (one-meter). At the NCAA Zone C Diving event, she finished fourth in the three-meter event and 11th on one-meter. She was league champion in both events and was named Horizon League Diver of the Week sevne times.
Grant completed her collegiate career with repeat Horizon League championships in both the three-meter and one-meter diving events in 2015. That gave her seven league titles out of a possible eight in her career. She was named Diver of the Championship for the second straight year and earned four more Diver of the Week honors.
Grant earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from Oakland in 2015, and she is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree. She was a Horizon League All-Academic honoree as a junior and senior.
