NOTE OF THE NIGHT
- For the Falcons, the Ohio State match wrapped up a stretch of four games in a 10-day span. Three of those contests were on the road against nationally-ranked teams. The Brown and Orange dropped 1-0 decisions at No. 6 Michigan State and OSU, and a 2-1 contest at No. 1 Notre Dame. Both the MSU and OSU games were decided on second-half penalty kicks, while the Fighting Irish scored the winning goal with just over 13 minutes left in the match.
FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- 3' – Senior Keaton Reynolds pressured an errant OSU backpass, forcing Buckeye goalkeeper Parker Siegfried to come out of his 18-yard box and rifle the ball out of bounds.
- 4' – Soon after the ensuing throw-in, junior Tate Robertson played an entry ball toward Reynolds in the box, resulting in a corner kick. The short corner kick saw the ball find its way to junior Peter Pugliese, but his shot from distance was blocked.
- 9' – Freshman Zach Buescher played a ball ahead to senior Alexis Souahy on the right side of the pitch. Souahy crossed the ball into the box, where junior Moe Mustafa controlled it and laid it off for Reynolds. But, Reynolds' shot was off the mark, and a foul on the Falcons gave the ball back to OSU.
- 10' – At the other end, a series of short passes resulted in a turnaround shot by Nate Kohl, but sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia was there to make a diving save.
- 18 – BG applied pressure in the OSU end, but the Falcons couldn't quite get a shot off. Souahy's pass found Pugliese, who made a nifty cutback move to elude a defender. The junior took the ball into the box, but it was knocked off of his foot at the last possible second.
- 24' – Mwembia made a nice save from close range on Kohl after a nice through ball by a Buckeye teammate.
- 35' – A long throw by sophomore Robert Miller III was headed by a player in the center of the box, and the ball fell to Brennan on the far side of the six, but his shot was wide.
- 40' – Pugliese stole the ball near midfield and found Brennan, and the sophomore poked the ball past a Buckeye player, but he was knocked to the ground as he attempted to get around the defender.
- 40' – Less than a minute later, Buescher was unceremoniously dumped near midfield, with no foul call forthcoming. He was then booked for protesting the no-call.
- 45' – Mwembia did a nice job of grabbing a long entry ball on one hop with multiple players converging upon him.
SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- 50' – Brennan and Reynolds worked a combination play off of Brennan's throw-in, but a Brennan diagonal ball from the right side sailed through the box and out for a goal kick.
- 58' – A pass found an open Joshua Jackson-Ketchup on the right side of the box with only Mwembia to beat, but the Buckeyes' leading scorer badly misfired on his shot from approximately 10 yards out.
- 69' – Junior Dominic Grida played a long ball ahead to Reynolds, who found senior Brad Macomber. Macomber's right-side cross was blocked, but the ball came to freshman Chris Sullivan, who took a touch to his left and fired a low shot on target from 12 yards out. But, Siegfried was able to make the save with a diving effort.
- 70' - A Reynolds through-ball found Brennan, but his shot was blocked by the charging OSU 'keeper outside the box.
- 73' – Sullivan found Reynolds, who did nifty work to keep possession in the box. The senior, with several Buckeye players draped all over him, slid the ball to Brennan, but Brennan's low shot from the top of the box was saved.
- 73' – BG got the ball right back, and a blistering Brennan shot forced Siegfried into a leaping save, as the 'keeper was just able to tip the ball wide of the left goalpost.
- 80' – A penalty kick was awarded to OSU as a Buckeye player went to the ground in the left corner of the box. Abdi Mohamed took the kick, and put it into the lower left corner.
- 84' – Pugliese's hustle thwarted an OSU scoring chance, as the junior chased a Buckeye striker into the box, poking the ball away before a shot could be attempted.
- 85' – After Miller won a corner kick, Robertson's corner found Buescher, who hit a curving shot. But, the ball went just wide of the upper left corner
- 89' – Robertson found Macomber as the Falcons made a run forward, but Macomber's cross/shot from the right side was grabbed by the 'keeper.
- 90' – BG got the ball back into the OSU end, but the Falcons couldn't get a shot off before time expired.
