Falcons Flock To Lansing For Mary Fossum Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf program travels to Lansing, Michigan this weekend to compete in the Mary Fossum Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will take place over Sept. 23-24, and is being hosted by Michigan State University at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
THE FALCONS AT THE MARY FOSSUM INVITATIONAL
* The tournament will begin with 36 holes (two rounds) on Saturday, Sept. 23, followed by the final 18 holes on Sunday, Sept. 24. Both days will start with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
* BGSU has competed in the Mary Fossum Invitational a total of two times in the past.
* Bowling Green last took part in the tournament during the 2012-13 season, while also participating in the event in 1998-99.
THE FIELD
* The Mary Fossum Invitational, including Bowling Green, will have a total of 11 schools competing. The field also includes MAC foes Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois.
* The 11-school field includes: Michigan State (hosts), Michigan State B Team, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley, Toledo, UNC-Charlotte, Western Michigan, Xavier, Northern Illinois, and Bowling Green.
THE FIRST TWO WEEKS
* The Falcons have posted two top-10 scores (54 holes) in program history to open the season.
* BGSU shot a 921 at the Redbird Invitational, which ranks eighth-best in school history.
* Bowling Green then carded a 923 at the Cardinal Classic, which ranks ninth-best in program history.
* The Falcons are averaging 10 birdies per 18 holes, and currently have 60 birdies on the season. BGSU led the Redbird Invitational with 32 birdies.

Erin Fahey
The junior finished third at the Redbird Invitational (221), and tied for 29th at the Cardinal Classic (225) … Both scores are at least tied for the top two 54-hole scores of her career … Fahey has four top-five finishes and three top-three finishes in her career .. This will be the 25th event of her career.
Nichole Cox
The freshman has competed in each of the first two tournaments this fall season … She finished tied for sixth at the Redbird Invitational (225), while carding a round-three 70 (fourth-best round ever in school history) … Has posted a 78 or lower in every round since the opening 18 holes at the Redbird Invitational.
Sarah Kern
After beginning the season in fifth in the lineup, Kern moved up to the third spot for the Cardinal Classic … Across the first two tournaments, she's recorded three 18-hole scores that rank in the top five for her career … Has carded a 77 in each tournament, which is second only to a 74 she registered at last year's Cardinal Classic.
Julia Durkin
Made her season debut at the Cardinal Classic, and had the tournament of her career … Posted a career-low 224, shattering her previous 54-hole low of 243 … Recorded rounds of 73 and 72, which are the top 18-hole scores of her career … In each round at the Cardinal Classic, totaled a score below an 80, which she had never done in a tournament before.
Sammi Blackburn
Along with Cox, earned a spot in the lineup as a true freshman for the first two events of the 2017-18 season … Looking to open the tournament tomorrow with another strong opening round … Shot a 78 at the Redbird Invitational and a 79 at the Cardinal Classic, which are the top scores in her young career.
