Falcons Shine As Gustafson Breaks School Record Again At Tom Wright Classic

Bowling Green, Ohio – Redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson broke the school record in the shot put for the sixth time in her career and the Bowling Green State University indoor track & field team won four events in the Tom Wright Open Friday night. BGSU competed against Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Shawnee State at the meet.

THE RECORD BREAKER
- Aliyah Gustafson has competed in the shot put three times in 2017-18, breaking her own school record each time she has competed.
- Friday, she broke her own school record by well over a foot, throwing 55-feet-10.5 (17.03m). Her previous record was 54-3.75.
- Gustafson climbed from 10th to sixth nationally.
- Her distance would have qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships a year ago in 14th place.
- No Falcon has advanced to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships since Stephanie Heldt in the high jump in 2001.
THE WEIGHT THROW
- Aliyah Gustafson also won the weight throw with a personal best distance of 64-6.5 (19.67m) to climb into the top 25 in the country.
- Elizabeth Iversen finished third with a mark of 61-11 and Kaila Butler followed at 59-4.
- Allie Farmer set a new personal best, just one inch behind Butler, at 59-3.
SPRINTING ON THE TRACK
- Freshman Savannah Nevels set new personal bests in the 60 and 200.
- She twice set a new PR in the 60, running 7.69 in the prelims and then 7.67 in the finals to finish third.
- In the 200, Nevels had a personal best time of 25.07 seconds.
- Freshman Ryen Draper and sophomore transfer Peyton Lee also posted PRs in the 60 with times of 25.15 seconds and 25.37 seconds, respectively.
Peyton Lee'S BIG NIGHT
- Not only did Peyton Lee PR in the 60, she also set new personal bests in the 60 hurdles and the high jump.
- Lee broke her personal best in the 60 hurdles twice, running 8.67 seconds in the prelims before topping out at 8.62 seconds in the finals. She won both the prelims and the finals and her time is the second fastest in the MAC this year.
- Lee also had a personal best in the high jump, leaping 5-1 (1.55m).
OTHER STRONG EFFORTS
- Sophomore Chasatea Brown won the 400 in 57.77 seconds. It establishes a personal best for her as it is the first time she has ever raced the distance.
- Senior Rachel Durbin placed second in the mile with a season-best time of 5:04.84. She was just .11 seconds off the winning pace.
- Jessi Lindstrom (5:09.37) and Elena Lancioni (5:14.42) also set personal bests in the mile.
- Kyla Paster posted a season-best mark in the long jump, placing second in the event at 17-11.5 (5.47m)

- BGSU is scheduled to take part in two meets in the next week.
- The Falcons will compete in Findlay's Elite Throws competition Friday and Saturday.
- The rest of the team will travel to the Thundering Herd Invitational, hosted by Marshall, on the same days.
