DEKALB, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was defeated by Northern Illinois University, 93-62, Tuesday (Jan. 23) evening at the NIU Convocation Center. The loss drops Bowling Green to 12-8 (3-4 MAC), while Northern Illinois improves to 10-10 (3-4 MAC).
Northern Illinois pushed its home record to 8-1 on the season. That mark includes a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. BGSU trailed by just seven at the half, but the Huskies shot 75.9 percent (22-of-29) in the second half, including a 6-of-8 (75.0 percent) clip from downtown. For the game, NIU shot 61.3 percent (38-of-62).
PLAYER NOTES
• Sophomore guard Rodrick Caldwell went 4-for-6 from the floor to finish with a team-high 13 points.
• Junior forward Demajeo Wiggins also finished in double figures, as he added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Dylan Frye registered eight points, one rebound and one assist.
• Redshirt-freshman guard Justin Turner and freshman guard Nelly Cummings each finished with five points and three rebounds. Turner had three assists and two steals, while Cummings had two assists.
• Junior guard Antwon Lillard recorded six points, one rebound and one assist.
• Freshman center Joniya Gadson scored a career-high four points, and also set a career high with two made free throws.
• Senior guard Matt Fox and freshman forward Daeqwon Plowden each scored three points.
• Junior guard De Andre' Austin, in just one minute, had two points, one rebound and one steal.
