Falcons Improve Throughout Day One Of Bearkat Invitational

MAGNOLIA, Texas – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team played 36 holes at the Bearkat Invitational on Monday (Oct. 1). After registering a 310 to open the competition, the Falcons concluded the day by improving their team score by five strokes, carding a round-two 305 to sit in seventh place out of 14 schools.
Hosts Sam Houston State enters tomorrow's final round with an eight-stroke lead. SHSU notched a 582 on day one. Houston Baptist (590) and Lamar (596) sit in the top three on the leaderboard, as well.
All five Falcons – Erin Fahey (150), Katie Whitfield (151), Julia Durkin (158), Nichole Cox (161) and Jessica Madry (164) – recorded multiple birdies on the day, including at least one birdie in each round. Fahey, BGSU's leader after 36 holes, posted rounds of 76 and 74 to sit tied for 16th. Whitfield and Durkin also carded four birdies a piece. Whitefield's round-two 73 was the lowest round on the day for Bowling Green.
Nichole Cox finished the day with three birdies after opening the event with a 77. Madry, who had one birdie in each round, improved throughout the day, as her second-round 79 followed a first-round 85.
