KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team lost at Kent State University on Saturday (Feb. 24) night by a score of 64-63. The game was played at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. The Falcons were called for a foul with 3.4 seconds left, and KSU made both free throws to escape with the win.
The final 20 seconds saw four lead changes. An offensive rebound and layup by Demajeo Wiggins gave Bowling Green a 61-60 advantage with 20 seconds left. Just three seconds later, the Falcons were called for a foul, and KSU's Jalen Avery hit both free throws.
Wiggins again pulled down an offensive rebound on BGSU's next possession. He was fouled and hit both freebies to put Bowling Green ahead, 63-62, with just 8.4 seconds to go. With 3.4 seconds to go, the Falcons were whistled for yet another foul, and Avery hit two final free throws. Antwon Lillard's three-pointer at the buzzer rimmed in-and-out.
The loss drops Bowling Green to 16-13 (7-9 MAC) on the season.
PLAYER NOTES
• Redshirt-freshman guard Justin Turner led the way with 17 points. In the process, he broke the BGSU single-season freshman scoring record.
• Turner now has 440 points on the season. The previous record was held by currant assistant coach Anthony Stacey, who scored 433 points during the 1995-96 season.
• Junior forward Demajeo Wiggins posted his 14th double-double of the season, as he finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Wiggins has recorded a double-double in five-straight games.
• For Wiggins, this is the second time in conference play this season that he's notched five-consecutive double-doubles. He posted a double-double in five-straight games in the month of January.
• Sophomore guard Dylan Frye added 14 points, three rebounds and two assists. Frye hit two three-balls, marking the 27th time in his career that he's made multiple triples in a game.
• Junior guard Antwon Lillard contributed with nine points, five rebounds and two assists.
• Freshman forward Derek Koch finished the game with four points, four rebounds and two assists. He's posted multiple assists 12 games this season.
• Freshman forward Daeqwon Plowden had three points, four rebounds and one block.
• Senior guard Matt Fox posted two points and one rebound.
• Redshirt-junior forward Jeffrey Uju tied his conference career high with four rebounds.
