Aliyah Gustafson, Elizabeth Iversen Named All-Conference
February 25, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson was named Mid-American Conference First Team All-MAC and senior Elizabeth Iversen was named Second Team All-MAC following the conclusion of the 2018 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Gustafson earned her first team honor on the strength of a MAC Championship in the shot put. Gustafson's throw of 54-feet-11.5 (16.75m) was more than three further than any other competitor. In fact, any of her six throws at the meet would have won the league championship.
Gustafson also placed second in the weight throw, breaking BGSU's school record with a distance of 69-3.25 (21.11m). She was eight inches shy of winning the weight throw and posted four of the top nine throws at the MAC Championships.
Iversen was awarded second team All-MAC honors after placing second in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw. In the shot put, Iversen jumped into second place on her initial throw of 51-11 (15.82m) and never fell out of that position. Five of her six throws traveled at least 15.00m. Only Gustafson had more than one throw that went that far at the meet.
Iversen also finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 65-2.75 (19.88m). She had four throws of at least 19.00m at the meet.
Bowling Green posted its best results at a MAC Championship in 19 years by finishing third with 68 points. The Falcon throwers accounted for 34 of the 68 points, anchored by Gustafson and Iversen, who combined for 31 points. For their efforts, throws coach Derrick Vicars was named the Mid-American Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.
