MEET RESULTS (.pdf)
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team came within an eyelash of setting a school record team score on the balance beam on Sunday (March 4) at the University of Illinois, led by a career-best performance from Jovannah East. That effort, as well as another 49 from the floor exercis lineup, helped BGSU score a 195.325 and once again improve their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The cumulative score was the third best of the season in ten meets and pushed the Falcons' RQS to 195.120. They will move up one spot in the national rankings to 40th, just 0.195 out of 36th place and the cutoff for NCAA Regionals. Bowling Green finished third against the Fighting Illini (196.700) and Lindenwood University (195.625); their won-loss record drops to 4-12 overall with a pair of dual meets remaining on the regular season schedule.
Last week on the beam, BGSU scored a season-best 48.950 on Friday, then featured a Sunday lineup that tallied three straight 9.9s. At Illinois, East led a group that scored 49.225, which fell just shy of the school record (49.250). India McPeak and Laura Mitchell each scored 9.850, while Lexi Augustine added a 9.825. This was the Falcons' first 49 on the beam since the 2017 MAC Championships and only the third in the last two seasons.
The Falcons moved to the floor exercise for the second rotation and continued its strong start. The team registered a 49.075, its sixth score of 49 or better on the floor in this season's ten meets. Although the squad competed with only five, Nacaida Kearns led off with a personal record 9.850, while Kayla Rose secured a 9.825 and East's 9.875 provided a great anchor. All five gymnasts in the lineup scored 9.750 or better. BGSU carried a 98.300 into the back half of the meet; however, they could not hold the momentum and scored just a 97.025 in the final two rotations (48.475, vault; 48.550, bars).
BGSU has two regular season meets remaining before the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships, which will take place in Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Saturday, March 24. Both remaining duals are against MAC foes, and the Falcons still have an opportunity to earn a share of the MAC regular season championship.

HEAD COACH KERRIE TURNER SAYS...
- "White we improved on our RQS, I feel we could have finished the meet much stronger. We had a great start on balance beam and floor, and the team also handled only competing five up on two events due to illness of some team members this weekend. We are really going to need to focus on vault landings and confident bar routines for our next meet. We gained good road experience this weekend, and I am hoping to have a fully healthy team for our meet at Kent State on Friday.
- BGSU continues to extend their program-record streak of consecutive meets with 194+ after Sunday's 195.325.
- The Falcons have scored 194+ in all ten meets during the 2018 season and in 12 straight overall.
- Thus far in 2018, Bowling Green is the only MAC team to score 194 or better in every meet.
- The team now has an average score of 194.865 and an RQS of 195.120.
- BGSU earned one score of 9.9+, nine scores of 9.8+ and 15 scores of 9.7+ out of 22 total routines.
- The 9.925 on beam by Jovannah East was a new personal record. It was also her ninth career 9.9 and sixth this season.
- East finished second on beam, as well as third on floor (9.875) and third in the all-around (38.775).
- She now has 24 top-threes in 2018, including 14 wins. In her career, she has 43 top threes and 26 wins.
- In just her second season, she has now assumed the active team lead in career top-threes.
- East has 9.8+ in 27 of 34 events in 2018 (.794) and 55 of 66 career events (.833).
- Laura Mitchell earned a 9.850 on the beam and tied for the team's best score on bars with a 9.800.
- Mitchell posted her fifth straight 9.8+ on beam and improved her RQS to 9.835. She also has two consecutive 9.8s on bars.
- Leslie Delgado set a new personal best on the bars and shared the team lead with a 9.800. She has scored 9.7+ in seven of 10 meets.
- Nacaida Kearns competed in three events for the ninth time in ten meets and once again excelled in the floor exercise.
- At Illinois, she set a new floor personal record (9.850) one week after equaling her PR against CMU and Ohio State. Kearns' floor RQS is 9.785.
- India McPeak (9.850) and Lexi Augustine (9.825) continue to balance a formidable beam lineup for BGSU.
- McPeak's beam RQS (9.825) makes her competitive for a potential postseason berth, while Augustine (9.770) is quickly building hers.
- After a slow start in 2018, Kayla Rose is also building towards a quality RQS. This week, she scored a 9.825 on the floor, one week after earning 9.875 and 9.825 in a pair of meets. Her floor RQS is now 9.795.
