Volleyball Signs Three for 2018 Season in Katanic, Meyer and Walz
April 12, 2018 | Volleyball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green volleyball program has added three players to the 2018 roster in Nikolija Katanic, Katelyn Meyer, and Julia Walz with National Letters of Intent.
"We are thrilled to officially welcome Julia, Katelyn and Nikolija to BGSU and our volleyball team," Bowling Green volleyball head coach Danijela Tomic said. "All three of them have great character and come from great families whose values match the core values of our team. They also played for competitive high schools and clubs and know how to win."
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Katanic joins the volleyball program as a 6-feet-0 middle blocker, planning to major in business. A two-year team captain for her team, Katanic attended Sesta Beogradska Gimnazija in Belgrade.
"Nikolija brings much-needed depth to our middle hitter position. She is a very disciplined and skilled blocker and has a strong arm swing and serve," Tomic said. "She has experience playing as a middle and an opposite, which is always a bonus in our system. She will be a great addition to our team because of her international experience and background growing up and playing volleyball in Serbia."

Coming to the Bowling Green program as a four-year letter-winner from Brooklyn, Ohio, Walz is a 5-2 libero who was named 2017 Patriot Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player. A three-year team captain for the volleyball team, Walz was also a multi-sport athlete at Brooklyn High School lettering in softball, cheerleading, and track. In her four-year career, Walz tallied 1,485 total digs as well as 208 service aces, and played club volleyball with the Cleveland Volleyball Company where she was named a 2015 AAU Volleyball Academic All-American. A three-year PAC Scholar-Athlete award winner, Walz plans to major in marketing, and apparel merchandising and product development.

"Julia will add even more depth to our strong defensive group," Tomic said. "She is a strong serve receiver, defender and server. In addition, she brings a lot of energy on the court and is a great teammate."

A native of Pemberville, Ohio, Meyer is a senior at Eastwood High School, where she has been a four-year letter-winner for the Eagles volleyball and track and field programs. Having played club with the Premier Volleyball Academy as a 5-10 outside hitter, Meyer comes to Bowling Green with experience as a four-time all-conference honoree and back-to-back Northern Buckeye Conference and Ohio District 7 Player of the Years. Totaling 1,482 kills in her four-year career at Eastwood, Meyer helped her team post a 52-2 record over her final two seasons with the Eastwood program. A member of the National Honor Society, Meyer plans to major in exercise science.

"Katelyn has potential to develop into one of the best outside hitters in the MAC with her athleticism and skills," Tomic said of Meyer. "She is a six rotation outside, who is very dynamic, fast, powerful, can serve receive, play defense, and hit from the front and back row. She will make an immediate impact on our offense. She is also a great, selfless teammate who brings a lot of energy on the court."
