Falcons Open 2018-19 Season At Redbird Invitational On Sunday

NORMAL, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf program opens the 2018 season this weekend at the Redbird Invitational. Bowling Green is set to play 36 holes on Sunday (Sept. 9), before wrapping up the competition with 18 holes on Monday (Sept. 10).

THE FALCONS AT THE REDBIRD INVITATIONAL
• Bowling Green has now opened its season at the Redbird Invitational in every season since 2011-12.
• Last season, BGSU carded a team score of 921 to finish in fourth out of 12 schools.
• Bowling Green won the Redbird Invitational in 2015-16 with a team score of 905.
THE FIELD
• The Redbird Invitational is being hosted by Illinois State.
• The Redbird invitational, including Bowling Green, will have a total of 15 teams competing.
• The full field includes: Illinois State, Akron, Western Illinois, Ohio, Ball State, Bowling Green, UNI, Bradley, Butler, Northern Illinois, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Illinois Wesleyan and Loyola Chicago.
THE LINEUP
1. Erin Fahey
Posted a 75.48 stroke average in 2017-18, which ranks first all-time in program history … Lowered her program best career stroke average to 76.49 … Bowling Green's No. 1 in the lineup at all 12 events in 2017-18.
2. Jessica Madry
Saw action in 18 rounds for the Falcons last year … Competed in eight events on the season … Recorded a 79.94 scoring average, improving on her 81.05 average that she posted as a freshman.
3. Katie Whitfield
Competing in her first tournament as a Falcon this weekend … 2018 graduate of D.W. Daniel High School … Native of Clemson, S.C.
4. Nichole Cox
Tied the freshman scoring average record at BGSU by posting a 77.17 stroke average in 2017-18 … Played in all 29 rounds … Competed in all 12 events for the Falcons … Posted five Top-10 finishes.
5. Julia Durkin
Competed in eight events, totaling 20 rounds of action as a junior in 2017-18 … Registered a 79.20 stroke average.
Individual: Sammi Blackburn
Earned a spot in the lineup in all 12 events as a freshman in 2017-18 … Played all 29 rounds on the season … Posted an 81.41 stroke average.
