Falcons Place Fourth In Season-Opener At Alabama

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team opened the 2019 season with a team score of 189.675 in a quad meet at the University of Alabama Friday night. Facing a trio of opponents that ranked among the top 15 nationally a year ago, the Falcons place fourth overall. Denver won a tight competition with a score of 196.275, followed by Alabama at 196.175. Michigan was third at 196.025.

- Bowling Green opened the 2019 season on floor and four of the six Falcons in the rotation were competing in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers.
- Junior Jovannah East led the Falcons with a 9.775 and senior Lexi Augustine followed at 9.725. East's score ranked 10th at the meet.
VAULT
- BGSU's most consistent event of the night was vault as all six Falcons scored at least a 9.675.
- Sophomore Elena Lawson scored a career-best 9.800 for the top Falcon score. She tied for 10th overall on the apparatus.
- Junior Jovannah East added a 9.750 and junior Taylor Worthington and senior Lauren DeMeno posted identical scores of 9.700.
BARS
- Senior Leslie Delgado, in her only event of the night, scored 9.750 to lead the Falcons.
- Seniors Lexi Augustine and Lauren DeMeno added scores of 9.675 and 9.550.
BEAM
- Senior Julia Beyer led BGSU with a 9.700.
- Juniors Jovannah East and Taylor Worthington followed with scores of 9.650 and 9.625.

- Freshman Tess Muir competed in three events in her collegiate debut.
- The Falcons did not have an all-arounder in the meet.

UP NEXT
- Bowling Green will host UIC for its home opener on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 4 pm. The home meet is part of a home triple header, sandwiched by a pair of on-campus basketball games.
- UIC opened the season last weekend with a team score of 193.925 to place fourth out of four in a meet at Arizona State with Minnesota and Missouri. UIC will host Kent State, Centenary and UW Oshkosh Sunday.
