Falcons Lose To Eagles, 167-122, In MAC Dual Meet

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program came up just shy to Eastern Michigan after a strong closing effort, losing 167-122. The Falcons were led by Talisa Lemke who captured 18 points in the dive events with two first place finishes. The loss brings Bowling Green's record to 7-3, with a 1-1 record in the Mid-American Conference.

"We were a little flat at the beginning, but we had a lot better second half of the meet. We have been doing a lot of hard training and it shows. However, I truly believe we are well on our way to a great finish to the season."

The Falcons will return to the water on Thursday, Jan. 31 when they travel to face Akron. The meet has a schedule start time of 5 p.m. The Zips are 4-1 on the season, 2-0 in the MAC, with wins coming against Ball State and Buffalo. Akron and Bowling Green both participated in Akron's Zippy Invitational from Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. In the invitational, the Falcons finished fourth.

First Place Falcons
- The Falcons found themselves at the top of the results for the first time on the day following the first diving portion of the meet. Lemke earned nine points with a first place dive in the 3-meter event after being awarded a score of 322.2.
- Bowling Green captured another first place finish in the 100 Butterfly. Sarah Hennings landed a first place finish with a time of :56.93, earning nine points for the Falcons.
- Lemke continued her successful day, taking first place in the 1-meter dive event. She was received a score of 295.5, earning an addition nine points for BGSU, giving her a total of 18 on the day.
Other Top Performances
- Early in the meet, Franziska Wohlert performed well in the 200 Freestyle, concluding in 1:53.94 for a second place finish.
- Hennings held of Ali Staver of Eastern Michigan in the 200 Butterfly, beating her for second place by just :00.06.
- In the 50 Freestyle, Anna Eriksson came up just short of a second place finish, ending just .16 seconds shy. In addition, she was less than a second off of first. For her third place finish, she earned three points for the Falcons.
- For the 100 Freestyle, the Falcons were unable to snag first, but took second, third, fourth, and fifth with Wohlert, Ashleigh Franks, Eriksson, and Noelle Lavigne, respectively.
- Similarly in the 200 Backstroke, BGSU had Daisy Platts, Elodie Schreiber, and Sarah Fergus come away with second, third, and fourth.
- It was more of the same in the 200 Breaststroke. This time, Emily Verbrugge, Nikki Borgerding, and Kristen Puthoff captured second, third, and fourth for the Orange and Brown.
- Once again in the 500 Freestyle, Bowling Green saw their swimmers capture four of the top five, being led by Kellie House, Maddy Andrews, Mary Edwards, and Shaunna Jones.
- Not only did Hennings win the 100 Butterfly, but she was followed by Michaela Ruddock and Meghan Burnard who came up with second and third, respectively.
- In the 1-meter dive, BGSU took the top six spots. Behind Lemke was Kylie Mosset (253.65), Claire Stam (253.5), Ashley White (247.05), Lindsey Fox (207.9), and Rebekah Perry (187.36).
- In the 200 IM, the Falcons again took second, third, and fourth with Verbrugge, Borgerding and Schreiber finishing respectively.
