Falcons Set Eyes On ITA Regionals In East Lansing

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis program will travel to East Lansing, Mich. to take part in the ITA Regionals, an event that will span from Thursday (Oct. 17) until next Tuesday (Oct. 22). During the fall schedule, the Falcons hosted the BGSU Invitational while also competing in the Purdue Invitational and Cincinnati Invitational in preparation for the ITA Regionals.Â
The Field
The Orange and Brown will be going against a group of elite competition from the region. Being in the Midwest the Falcons will compete with Akron, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, UIC, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Oakland, Youngstown State and Valparaiso.Â
Regionals Layout
Play in East Lansing will begin on Thursday with the first two rounds of singles qualifying. Singles will continue on Friday with doubles also beginning. Both singles and doubles will run through the weekend with the Doubles Championship being on Monday and the Singles Championship on Tuesday. Additional information and details regarding the schedule will be added below as it becomes available.Â

Court 2, 9:00 a.m.: Marharita-Sophia Tavpash (BGSU) v. Eileen Carney (TOL)
Court 1, Morning: Marta Bettinelli (BGSU) v. Vanessa Streng (NU)
Court 1, Afternoon: Yulia Kapitanova (BGSU) v. Sivani Ingle (ILL)
Court 5, Afternoon: Joanna Tsadari (BGSU) v. Jennifer Timotin (MSU)
Court 7, Afternoon: Maria Jose (Majo) Magro (BGSU) v. Marie Mayerova (EMU)
Court 8, Afternoon: Ayumi Sasaki (BGSU) v. Julia Lilien (ND)

At the Cincinnati Invitational, senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and junior Marta Bettinelli won their third doubles title in as many invitationals this fall after also doing so at the BGSU Invitational and the Purdue Invitational. In singles, Joanna Tsadari picked up a singles win against over Cincinnati while Yulia Kapitanova won over Xavier and Ayumi Sasaki and Maria Jose (Majo) Magro bested Chattanooga.Â
Checking The Record Book
With the additional wins this fall, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash has moved up the all-time lists in career wins. For singles, Tavpash is now tied for 28th all-time with 48. As for doubles, she has 70 career wins, placing her in a tie for 16th all-time. In total, Tavpash has 118 combined wins, putting her 25th in the history of the program.Â
