Bradley "Pink" Classic
The 2019 Bradley "Pink" Classic will take place this Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon starting at 3:30 PM ET with the Men's 8k Red Race event. The Women's 6k Red Race event will follow shortly after at 4:15 PM ET. Both races will take place at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Illinois, which is to the northwest of the campus of Bradley University. Scouting The Field
The men's and women's teams will each be joined by 23 other schools their Red Races this Friday. Bowling Green will be joined in the field by fellow Mid-American Conference schools Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. This will be the first time both teams will compete against NIU or Central Michigan in a full team event this season. Allison Holahan was the women's team's lone representative in the 2019 NIU Huskie Challenge in early September. That race saw Central Michigan compete as well.
Notable Quotes
"With our meets this season we had some specific goal blocks. Louisville and Bradley we had blocked together, and with that we are focusing on this being our last meet prior to the MAC Championships. So we are trying to get everything out of it that we can; everything we need to be mentally and physically ready to go," Head Coach Lou Snelling said on the women's team. "At Bradley we're going back up to 6k. This is only our second of the season, which is fairly normal, but we still want to get more experience and comfort at that distance." Coach Snelling added that with how young the women's team is, the newcomers are doing really nice job this season. He said that patience is key to the development of the team, and that they will ready for races to come. Coach also explained that he would like to see how far they can "move the needle forward" in improving team scoring at Bradley this year versus last year.
"The approach for this meet being right before the conference championships is to practice some things one last time," Coach Juan Carrillo said on the men's team at Bradley. "Whatever didn't work in our last meet or earlier in the season, this is a time to practice those things in the race, get it done and leave Bradley with confidence. This would be a good time for our top guys to be more aggressive at the start, and just go in and compete with the top group. It's just putting the last piece of the puzzle together before the big day (MAC Championships)." Coach Carrillo also explained that following the group's great performance in the Louisville XC Classic, it was still not the team's peak. There are still four weeks to get a lot better before conference.
