MATT FANNON INTERVIEW (Oct. 9, 2019)
FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• BGSU is 4-0-0 in the MAC for just the second time in school history, and the second time in as many years. Last year's edition of the Falcons got off to a school-record 8-0-0 start in MAC play, winning the league regular-season crown with a 10-1-0 record.Â
• BGSU defeated Kent State and Ohio by identical 3-1 scores on the road last weekend. In both matches, the Falcons used a quick-strike offense to take a 2-0 halftime lead. At KSU, juniors Nikki Cox and Nikhita Jacob scored goals just 3:45 apart within the first 15 minutes of the match. Then, at Ohio, seniors Chelsee Washington and Maureen Kennedy scored less than two minutes apart (1:50, to be exact).
• Washington scored the first goal of Sunday's Ohio match, marking the eighth time in her career that she had scored the opening goal of the game (including a surreal stretch of nine games in 2018 when she scored the game's first goal on six occasions). Not surprisingly, BGSU is 8-0-0 in those matches.
• Something's got to give on Thursday at Cochrane Stadium. BGSU is 4-0-0 at home this season, and the Falcons have a lengthy home unbeaten streak dating to early last season. Central Michigan will enter the match with a 3-0-2 record on the road this year, including wins over Kentucky and Ball State and a tie with Northwestern away from home.
• On Tuesday (Oct. 8), Kennedy was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, earning that honor for the fourth time in her BGSU career. Kennedy scored a team-high four points last weekend, figuring in the scoring of both game-winning goals, and also blocked an Ohio shot on the goal line for a 'team save' on Sunday.

THE OPPONENTS
• Central Michigan enters Thursday's BGSU match with an overall record of 6-1-2, and the Chippewas are 3-1-0 in MAC play. CMU's first loss of the season came on Friday, a 1-0 home setback vs. Western Michigan, but the Chips bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Northern Illinois on Sunday. CMU is 3-1-0 at home and undefeated (3-0-2) on the road this year to date. Marie Bringard leads the team with four goals and nine points, while Alina Miagkova and Cami Taylor have two goals each. Zoie Reed has played every second in goal and has 46 saves and a goals-against average of just 0.51. First-year coach Jeremy Groves joined 15 returning letterwinners, including seven starters, who helped CMU to records of 7-12-0 overall and 5-6-0 in the MAC last fall.
• Eastern Michigan is 3-7-2 on the year, and the Eagles are 2-2-0 in the MAC heading into a Thursday match at Toledo. Last weekend, EMU snapped an eight-game winless streak with home wins over NIU (3-1) and WMU (3-2). Lindsey Shira, who scored the GWG in both of those matches, was named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on Tuesday. Eastern is 2-1-1 at home (including 2-0-0 in the MAC) and 1-6-1 on the road this season to date. Shira has team-high totals of four goals and nine points, while both Amanda Cripps and Sabrina McNeill have three goals on the year. Mabel Dunn has played in 11 of the 12 matches in goal, and has 58 saves and a 1.57 GAA. Head coach Scott Hall's club went 10-11-0 overall and 5-6-0 in MAC play a year ago.
THE SERIES
• BGSU trails Central Michigan, 14-7-2, in the all-time series, but the Falcons have captured the last two meetings. Two years ago, BG picked up a 3-1 win at Cochrane, breaking an 11-match losing streak vs. the Chippewas. Last season, the Falcons moved to 5-0-0 in the MAC with a 3-1 victory in Mount Pleasant. BGSU is 2-7-1 in home matches, 4-7-0 on the road and 1-0-1 in neutral-site contests vs. the Chippewas.
• The Falcons trail Eastern Michigan, 15-11-1, in that series, but BG won a pair of meetings last year, with a 1-0 regular-season victory and a 2-1 triumph in the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round. Nikki Cox scored all three BG goals vs. the Eagles a year ago. In the teams' last meeting in Ypsilanti, in 2017, EMU picked up a 2-1, double-OT victory. In fact, seven of the last nine BGSU-EMU meetings have ended with a 2-1 final score. BG is 5-7-0 at home and 6-8-1 on the road vs. Eastern through the years.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the EMU match, the Falcons will return home for the next two matches. BGSU will face Miami on Friday, Oct. 18, in the team's annual Pink Game. That match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will close the home portion of the schedule by facing Ball State on Sunday, Oct. 20. That game, a rematch of the 2018 MAC Tournament final, is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at Cochrane.
